We rescued this baby turtle from the road. Part of my foot for size.

I thought Chris would have let me take some photos before he released it in the lake, but he didn't and he almost fell in the lake. I told him he should have fallen in, at least I would have been able to get a good shot!!!

One minute is was at the beginning of the runway, next it was along side me, not fast enough on reeling in the Tamron 150-600 and clipped its wing

Something that I picked up some years ago, watching a youngster with a Sigma 150-500mm, was to treat lenses of this type as old "one-touch" zooms; rather than using the zoom ring you push/pull the front part of the lens. I'm sure that there a many reasons why you shouldn't do it this way and potential damage that could be done but it is a lot more convenient and quicker.

The first trip that I did with my original (non OS) Sigma 50-500mm I missed a number of shots whilst trying to wind the zoom in or out and as I as still shooting film it was more of a pain to crop. Likewise I also missed more shots by grabbing the wrong ring when trying to zoom and altering the focus.

Having changed to the later stabilised version, after I went digital, I have adopted the above method; it forces you to grip the lens further forward than you might, helping combat shake and keeps your hands away from the focus ring:cocksure:.

Don't have the pictures handy but there's an elusive wasp here called the "Cuckoo wasp". It's an amazingly beautiful iridescent green/blue color. I've seen it about 4-5 times. I have so many "almost" shots of it it's not even funny (out of focus, bad lighting, etc.) It's extremely difficult to photograph because it never sits still and is usually hiding inside the bark of trees. Not sure I'll ever get a good enough picture of one. Each time I see one (probably only once a month or less) I get an adrenaline rush but never quite get a good enough pic because it inevitably flies away.
