I was shooting a Pied Billed Grebe when I saw this Black Crowned Night Heron out of the corner of my eye

Isn't nature wonderful - this barn owl instinctively new when it was just too dark to stand any chance of even a half decent photo! It was just too far and too dark. Almost too embarrassed and ashamed to post this but, just for a laugh!

Its right bang in the centre of the pic. sitting on the branch of the bush.

We have a winner! The special prize is a framed print of a kingfisher in flight, below. The print will be in the post shortly..!

edit: Sadly, I have a whole bunch of missed opportunity kingfisher shots from yesterday. And this is one of the better ones..!

kingfisher can be tough to catch

Yeah, I always look out for him, getting to know where he hangs out! It's all learning - I need a much faster shutter, longer lens and earlier in the day so ISO stays sensible. And it maybe wasn't the best time to try out back button focusing for the first time!! I hit the 4way navigator more than the af button!! Oh well, next time..!

Never heard a squirrel make such a noise as the one in this tree in our back garden this afternoon. I thought there might be something wrong with him because he allowed me to get quite close.

Couldn't get a clear shot at his face though because of twigs in the way.

He ran off after I took three.

This is the best.
