The snow is beautiful but the ice can be more interesting to photograph. This is one, very frozen gutter.

If it's Friday, it's Photography class. 20 degree weather, and not dressed for going outside, 4 of my intrepid students wanted to go outside and take photos. It was a beautiful afternoon, sunshine, blue sky, and no wind. This was my contribution:

The car reflected in the middle set of windows is my car. :)

I like it. I also think is is great that these students get a chance to learn photography. What age group are they?

They are 15 - 16. I had to chuckle to myself about one student. She was saying how she likes nature and rural scenes. Our campus in right in a residential neighborhood and an old military depot. She didn't think that icicles and snow on trees was nature. :) Oh, well...

You must have some of that man-made snow and ice then. My wife teaches 9th graders. The stories she tells me about what they say can be so funny.

I like it. Is this a working wheel?

Don,

Yes, it is. It is a reproduction Canadian production wheel, which means it spins really fast because of the large wheel that does not require lots of treddling to move fast. It wa made by The Merlin Tree in Vermont. I love it. I can spin yarn at least 2 - 3 times faster than I could with my old Ashford wheel. I just have to watch the dog's tail when spinning. :) I undo the drive band when I am not using it so it does not stretch the band at all. Even, so-called "non-stretch" twine will eventually stretch a little. I use mason's twine for the drive band. Cheap and doesn't stretch a lot.

I did not have much of a chance to go out and get some photos, but I was able to catch a snap of this little guy. He had just landed after being at the bird feeder. Note the sunflower seed in his little feet.

I have about had it with cold weather this year. It's going to be -4F tonight and -12F tomorrow night. I am already thinking spring. :) I realize that live hummingbirds won't be back for several months yet, but here's some wishful thinking.

I feel your pain. We are having a heat wave with 7 tonight and -1 tomorrow night. Biggest threat is a possible nor'easter Wed night. Still waiting for final forecast but could be anywhere from 2 to 12 inches depending on final storm track.

Alan,
Thanks. I think we are going to miss most of it. They are only predicting 1-3 inches total. Most of it will be East of the Catskills. Works for me. I am not in the mood to deal with too much more snow this winter.

I had to run out this evening and had fun with street lights. I was sitting at a red light when I took this one. My Nikkor 35mm f/1.4 IA lens (pre-autofocus) is perfect for this. I do love that lens but don't use it as much as I should.

After posting this, I realized I should have titled it, "Red Light District." :)

I like it. And we had better not catch you in the red light district.
