Photos from the D3200

While I'm on a roll with the D3200, here is a group shot Nikon 35mm lens.
How many people can you fit in a 35mm lens?:)
I do think this lens is my favourite workhorse lens, there is so much you can do with it, I even prefer it over the 50mm f1.8, but very close second is my Tamron 60mm macro.
From what I have seen on this thread confirms my view that the D3200 is one sexy little bit of kit, and now so cheep I am pondering getting another body so I can have 2 lenses instantly ready for use.
This was taken last Friday and the macro shots above earlier today, well yesterday now in the UK.
Like the where's Wally pictures see if you can spot the photographer, hint, ML-L3.

I discovered a sunflower field today! Said "No Trespassing" but... what the heck! Only live once right? I took a TON of shots and this was literally the ONLY one I liked :/ I will be back out there when I have more time. The first pic is the original and the last two are edited. I used a polarizing and sun lens for the first time; not sure if I like it haha. Used my 50mm at 1/60 F22 ISO 100. Thanks for looking!

And the winner is...........

With sunflowers it has to be bright and sunny.

This would have made a great shot for focus stacking

Middle pic is my fave but I'd love to see you get in amongst the sunflowers where there are lots of them around you. Let in a bit more light so that you can broaden up the depth of field perhaps? Whatever, give us more! Cheers, Brad :)

I will be researching focus stacking haha! I fiddled around with my settings and it seemed that ISO 100, 1/8s at an f1.8 (probably wrong on that guess) was the best combination I could come up with but I didn't like how any of them turned out. Do I need to ditch the polarizing filter for that shot?

I was very nervous due to a no "No Trespassing" sign, as there was a MUCH better angle to capture the flowers but I'd have to go deep into the field; having survived this first ordeal, I think I'm ready for round two! They weren't that tall just yet; maybe 3 ft at the most, possibly 4. And having the road in the background killed it for me, so, I'm going to go further and maybe find some new angles. Thanks for the feedback though! I had a blast doing this :D

Hey Feilong29, Have you been back to shoot sunflowers? Do you have any buckshot in your backside? I'm not as brave as you but awhile back I picked a few sunflowers (quickly!) then photographed them inside against black
cardboard.

Hey there Jill! I plan on going tomorrow or Saturday :D If I "find" one that has been "broken", I might take it home with me, hehe! I need to go in the evening or in the morning cause for some shooting for sure! Your pics look great though! What lens/iso/etc?

1/50 ss, f/16 ISO 200 -2EV 90mm on 55-200mm lens. They were underexposed though, I had to brighten them up. When I look at the settings after the fact, the rationale for them eludes. Oh well, thank goodness for post processing.

Another sunflower, ISO 100, 1/100s f8, two flash 45 degrees either side. Flowers bought from a shop as we don't have convenient fields of them where I live to pick them from;).
If I had have been thinking I would have removed the large leaf from the top of the flower, it ruins the shot somewhat for me, now I have Lightroom 5 I may try cloning it out. Just realised I can do that, DER!

I don't think the leaf ruins it. I didn't even see it until I read your post.

No mine was shot inside under controlled lighting, it makes all the difference. To be honest as single flowers and in a bunch of two or three, I still think as a subject they look better in the wild.
As stated a focus stacked image of a field of them would look awesome.
Flowers are one of my favourite subjects, both in the wild and studio shots. I do find in the wild shots challenging, I am currently working on a project of British Hedgerow and meadow flowers (weeds :)). I am aiming for single isolated stems with a nicely defocused and blurred background and have taken a few test shots, but so far have not been impressed with my results. So I think this project will go on a back burner till next spring.
My other attempts are studio shots, where I have had more success. Here are a few 'creative' shots done with multiple flash units, and one using a mirror and a black velvet background (not crushed velvet).

Gorgeous, all three. "A Rose by any other name would surely smell as sweet" Cheers, Brad :)

Thanks Brad,
I had fun not only taking the pictures, but setting up the lighting and planning the shots.
Must admit I do get a buzz out of photography.
Cheers Marc

I've just received my new Tokina 11-16mm F2.8 on recommendation from Nikonites. I shall do a comparison shot and post it here. If it ever stops raining! Cheers, Brad :)
