Nikon D500 Announced

I believe spec wise the D500 is compared to uninteresting specs of the 7d MkII.


So the one that cought my attention before was the Samsung NX1 (BSI did not deliver on the ISO tests, beating the D7200 with only 30 points on DXO Mark).

However I believe we will see a similar effect then with the 7d MkII and the NX1, less specs but more performance.
Wait and see though if the D500 specs deliver.

The Samsung has a VERY limited lens selection, and in real world tests on sports, the hit rate on focus has been pretty bad.

The Canon 7D MK II is really the only competition in the DX sports/wildlife market, IMO.

I agree, though, that we have to see the D500 in real world action before we can really know how it stacks up.

Lol All i know is he is apparently a music photographer. The impartialness of the review is up to everyone to pointlessly debate about. Nikon fans will say it's legit, Canon fanboys will make claims of complete bias and wondering how much Nikon supposedly paid this guy to say such nice things. And mirrorless users will be mirrorless users. Haha

not fixing the memory bank issues is a problem for me , ill stick to user 1 and user 2 on my 7100 until they fix this i wont be buying an upgrade camera , i still cant see why the memory banks dont have a default save it seems like they are wasted to me

what i want is to know exactly all my start up settings without doubt ie exposure comp might not set on 0 or flash comp might not set on 0 etc , by turning my dial away from user 1 and back i know every setting is defaulted back to what i set up.

is there a setting on the ff or d500 that i can do this?

isnt nikon listening to this problem , it is highly discussed a memory bank that when you change settings while shooting it saves what you change lol , wasted very relative feature

I have not heard of this problem before. I'm used to using U1 and U2 on my D7100 and 750 which like @egosbar says, after switching from the User mode and then back, it defaults to whatever was saved to it the last time.

Nikon IMO have done a great job on paper (we need real world results) of bringing a camera out that will meet the needs of the majority of top end DX shooters,nothing can be everything to every one,fortunately for me it is so over spec for what i need i am not at the moment looking to get one.
That could change of course because in all honesty its not the over specified that stops me its the price which does seam fair for a camera in that position in the market place its just more than i want to spend on a body.

yeah one of the first things i noticed when shooting with a borrowed d800 , i like to know exactly where im starting from , apparently the memory banks have been like it for 10 years , a lot of people dont worry about it but most user 1 and 2 shooter s see the value and having four that you can custom name would be awesome , hopefully they listen one day and set them so they are usable because it really does turn me off and keeps me waiting , the d500 with that feature and id probably be forced to buy one lol

I wish all my D7200 shots looked as good on the computer as they do on the camera back :D looking at them there noise is not a problem and i never have a focus or DOF issue :confused: do you think it could be a card reader problem.

Something to consider on pricing,three prices including gray on other Nikon bodies,the gray price is not the cheapest i can find its from a reputable shop based dealer with a 3 year warranty

Just a quick look tells you a gray 810 with a 3 year warranty is cheaper than D500 at dealer price,something will give somewhere:D

:(, I think the price may be a killer for me.
I have never bought a grey body, lenses yes but I always pay the extra for piece of mind on bodies. If I want one of these grey might be the only option, or wait for 2nd hand ones to start hitting the market .

It's best just to wait. It should be an easy matter to objectively test the D500, D5, D810, D750, D7200 on a level playing field. Nikon better be careful though, and not tank the D750 and D7200. I used to think the D7200 was the greatest camera innovation for no other reason that it's release drove down D7100 prices into reach of hobby goers. This new camera might put D750s and D7100s into the reach of the common joe six pack shooter and push D610s, D7000s, D700s down to where no one should be able to justify buying a D3xxx or D5xxx.

Not clear how the evolution of the other models will be. Somehow I have the feeling there will be a clean up (less models).
After the D3 - D700 issue I`m convinced Nikon did have a plan before releasing the D750 and D500.
