All the sample pictures and reviews swayed me to order this lens. I honestly wasn't sure what to expect or how it would really compare with my Tamron 150-600 "g1." Took it skiing with me last week & liked the results. The VR on this lens is insane. And having something really sharp at f5.6, from 200-500mm (without having to stop down), certainly trumps my Tamron. So impressed with it that the Tamron is going bye-bye. Took it with me to a gymnastics meet a couple of days ago, purely for fun. I normally only shoot with the Tamron 70-200/f2.8 with fairly high shutter speeds. For the Nikon, I shot gymnasts relaxed & chilling, but I also tried a number of shots following movement and then shooting when there is that fraction of a second when I know the gymnast will have temporarily stopped movement. I already feel like I annoy people enough shooting with the 70-200, so the massive 200-500 probably won't be joining me for future meets. Can't wait to try it out with soccer.

This was way on the other side of the arena from me:

Here it is. The very first photo taken with my 200-500 right out of the box. Cropped to avoid some a-hole's beer bottle. (I picked it up after the model departed) I missed focus just a bit I think, but I will be working on that a lot! Unfortunately I got called in to work due to an electrical fire so the few other photos I took will have to wait till I get home. Early opinion? Holy Crap I love this lens!!!

A few more. I struggled a bit with focusing, but I'm sure that will come with more practice.

Another shot of my friend at a different location.

It's a shame that I missed focus on this little guy. I like the shot with the wing tip dragging the water.

Nice sharp clean shots. That D750 and the 200-500 combination is hard to beat.

Does anyone use this lens for field sports (rugby). Trying to decide between this or the 300mm pf

I'm taking mine to a youth soccer tournament in a few weeks, so I will find out how it works. Thinking I may need a monopod though. Those games last longer than my old beat up shoulders can manage, I think.

Does the 200-500 focus okay with the Kenko 1.4x Pro 300 teleconverter? There is one for sale on the board at work. The guy says his D7100 with a Sigma 150-600 Contemporary won't focus with it 90% of the time.

Yes, it focuses ok. However, it is slower with it than without it, and sharpness will suffer somewhat. I only use it when absolutely necessary. If you're using it for stationary objects, then it's fine. If you're tracking with it, it is somewhat difficult.
