NiK Complete Collection just got WAY affordable

Saw this blog post by someone at NiK that shows the NiK Complete Collection is now $149 for the full, Photoshop compatible package. That's Color Efex Pro 4, Silver Efex Pro 2, HDR Efex Pro 2, Viveza, ... the whole shebang!! You get a 15-day free trial as always, and there are a ton of folks like Tim Grey who offer 15% discount codes, so that would be what, around $125 for the whole suite. That's 1/2 what I paid 3 months ago, and it was worth it at the old price.

I can't tell you just how good these tools are. Go download the trial and give it a whirl. I can't believe they're this cheap.

Not sure. I purchased mine from a 3rd party before Google bought them out, and then upgraded from the Lightroom version to Photoshop over the phone, so the tech I was talking to emailed the download links and new keys immediately. I would think they should go out fairly promptly, but it is Google, so you never know. Servers could be slow. ;)

You should be able to start the 15-day trial without the keys anyway, so as long as it's some time in the next couple weeks. LOL

jake, they advertise that the plugins work with LR 4 (which I have)

Do you know if they offer the same features in lightroom as they do for PS (I have an OLD CS2)

Thanks... likely gonna download the trial tonight.

Absolutley the same plug-in for both. The advantage with Photoshop is that you can put them in a Smart Object, which allows you to go back and tweak them later. With Lightroom it creates a TIFF from the RAW file (with LR changes) and then calls the plug-in. When you're done it applies it permanently to the TIFF, so you can reopen it with the plug-in and tweak it, you have to start from scratch. In other words, be sure of what you have before saving the file since saving kicks you out of the plug-in.

Did you get an email like this one from Google?

Dear Helene,
Thanks for being a long-time Nik customer. As a registered ownerof one or more of our software products, we are pleased to announce that youare now eligible for a free copy of the new Nik Collection by Google, whichincludes all six of our award-winning plug-ins for Photoshop, Lightroom, orAperture.

I wonder if it's really FREE (per this email) or if it's just the trial . . . I would hate to install and have to reinstall the old version.

I just got that email, too. I'm thinking it's a straight up free complete collection for having paid ~3x the price it's selling for now. I'm glad I didn't upgrade my HDR to the new version II, looks like I'll get that puppy for free.

Thanks Jake.. The plug-ins look really good.. I am stuck in LR as NIK does not support CS2.. But if it does all that in LR, I will be golden.

Thank you for the heads up and the answers to the questions...

I just ran the installation and it didn't mention the need to put in a reg number or that it was a 15 day trial. I'm thinking it's the real deal!!

Thanks, Dave! I already downloaded. So rare to get "gifts" from software companies w/o strings attached.

Well, not only did I get an upgrade for what I purchased, I got the plugins also for the ones I did NOT purchase.
I wonder what this means for future products???

I'm so stoked, I forgot that I only had the Lightroom version but now I own the Photoshop version, too. Sweet!!

And I suspect this marks the end of Nik as we know it. My guess is Nik for Google will now go head to head with Instagram and any new versions of Nik plugin's will be a lower priority than the Instagram war.

The Photoshop version is awesome, though Smart Objects will triple the size of your files if you decide to invoke the Nik tools that way.

As for Instagram, Nik has Snapseed as its smartphone product (a killer editing app), so I'm not sure that these will all lead towards Instagram. There's a nice pool of "real photographers" using and promoting the products, so I'm hoping they stay important.

My guess is that Google realized that they were losing market share to Topaz based on price. They probably want to sell a lot at a lower price (like what Adobe did with Lightroom) then a few at the old inflated price. I wonder if Topaz will drop their prices too?
