35mm on a DX is not the equivalent of 50mm on an FX.

My opinion is that it clearly and obviously is.

I think your argument may be: 28mm x 1.5 crop factor = 42mm equivalent. And yes, both might be closer to the diagonals, but the normal lens for FX is is NOT 43mm, it is 50 mm, always has been, for over 80 years. I would however think either one is "close enough" for the concept. It rules out special effects of wide angle and telephoto.

35mm x 1.5x crop factor = 52 mm. Maybe could argue for 50/1.5 = 33.3 mm, but 35 is what they make. :)

It is true that the assignment did not actually say "normal". Maybe that was not the idea. It said 50FX or 35DX, and it was pointed out that no substitutions are permitted.

This one probably is a good one to sit out. Previous ones, B&W Night, Birds, Flowers, seemed much more clear. Is an ostrich or penguin a bird? :)

Back to what seems to be the idea behind this, the assignment is producing some nice images. Those who have shied away, perhaps you are missing something.

I've been shooting a lot lately with the 55-200mm, but since the assignment, have been using the 18-55mm more. I've been setting it at 35mm as best I could and using that if I could make it work. That 35mm on a DX is a sweet spot (must be why they have primes there). And, I'm pretty happy with the results, both what I shared and what I kept for the private collection.:)

So, I'd say if you wanna learn something, pick up the camera. If you wanna say something, and you want it to have impact, same thing; pick up the camera.

OK, enough written about this. It's getting to be a pissing contest and I've decided to close this thread before someone gets insulted or gets an infraction.
There is the choice: Do it or don't.
