And one other that I toyed with as well... giving it that "recorded down deep in the library cellars" kinda feel?

Re: nidding's first year of shooting

Oops, forgot to include what I messed with. Sorry!!!

1) I used the "clarity" and "shadows" sliders in LR5 to bring out a little detail and lighten some of the darker areas.
2) Dabbled a bit inside OnOne's Perfect Effects 8 (was lucky enough to get it free with their last promo) to add a mix of light HDR, grunge and grain effects, protecting the skin tones and shadow areas a touch with the sliders. I put a layer here, added a layer there, removed the layers I didn't like, messed a bit more.
3) All of that to try and get to the look/story/feel I had in my head.
4) Having said all that, I am NOT implying my edits are any better, just toying around. Again, Really LOVE that last edit ya put out there! FANTASTIC feel to it! Now we've gone from 21st century man remembering a forgotten era to "could have been there right after battle" kinda pics. At least, IMO. ;)

Thanks for letting me tinker!

Thanks, @Pretzel, that's some really good advise right there :)
I don't use any of the prorammes you used, but the process and results are good to see. The second one is great, I think. Really nice and gritty. The first one has a cool feel to it as well, but the contrast in the face might be a little bit too much, I think.

I have never really done fx-work before, so thank you for guiding me on the first step :)

Beautiful image Nidding :) How's the baby?

Thank you:) I think I might have acquired a taste for these graphic b/w architecture photos, and will try to explore that area a bit in the future.
And the baby is fine. These days she's a bit sensitive, and gets sense overloaded really quick, so she's at her mums arms most of the time. But now that you mention it, it might soon be time for more babyphotos , which I (surprice, surprice) LOVE taking :)

Got my hot shoe extension cable in the mail the other day, and did a quick test today. Did not get the desired result, but that was all there was time for. (I blame the fact that the subject was a little shiny metal statue)
