Moab Man 2015 Photo Collection

I have looked at both and I am leaning towards the second as well. What was your setup for these?

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

The first one was natural light through a fogged glass window. Camera was hand held. Combined it limited what I could do with the depth of field. In the editing, because the camera captured too much detail, I used a blur with masking to soften up the image. I have a love hate with the picture.

For my second attempt I wanted more in focus when looking down the throat of the flower. To do this one I headed out to the studio with my strobes and a tripod. This allowed me to increase the depth of field, increase the light I needed and slow down the shutter. To edit I cropped down on the "mouth", did a little tweaking with the white balance, and finalized with a softening of the image. Again, the detail captured just didn't look good.

My photographing the flowers isn't a competition thing with Wendy, but a curiosity of the subject matter. Flowers are not my thing, but there is something to be learned in everything we shoot.

Wendy and I discussed the first photo today and her comment was that she wished more of the mouth was in focus. I agreed. So tonight I decided to try and tackle this again.

What I like best in Wendys flower photos is the softness. It's not too much, not too little, but just right. And I give her credit, flowers can be tough to shoot. Her great love of flowers really serves her well in shooting them.

As for me, I will continue to shoot them and get her feedback to improve my flower photography.

Well I shoot a lot of flowers but what you are attempting is a lot harder to do. Look forward to more results. But I have to tell you, Wendy has set a high bar. I am getting inspired to try one of these type of shots now that flowers are blooming here again.

Never ceases to amaze me what can be pulled out of a raw image. This was an attack chopper going for night operations after sunset.

First shot from the large Tamron 150-600mm. Not tuned yet. Straight out of the box and onto the camera. Terrible lighting under storm clouds with the birds standing in the shade. Overall, the lens performed well. Next up will be trying a moving target out.

I would not have thought of the Tamron 150-600mm as a sports lens. I'm shooting Soccer in the rain from a long ways away under the safety of the pavilion and I'm loving this lens. So far no lock up.

My daughter is not an athlete. However, her boyfriends mom asked her to play as part of their non-athletic three woman team. As I said, she is not an athlete, but she suited up and headed out into the 45 degree rainy weather and played. Fortunately I was able to document her first and probably last athletic competition. The best part is the red t-shirt her competitor is wearing that accurately summed it up, "You had a chance... UNTIL we stepped on the field."

And an F-22 that literally flew over when we got home from graduation. I told her the fly over was just for her. We are in the direct flight path for alternate landings and they pass not to high over the houses.

So nice to be back home in front of my editing computer with all my tools at my disposal.

If you ever go to Glacier National Park and hike up to Avalanche Lake plan on being there for an afternoon into evening. There are 3 main waterfalls that come down the east side of the lake. If you are patient and wait, and there is some wind blowing through, you too may be surprised and see these incredible bursts of color on the waterfalls. They are rainbows, but with the mist in the blowing wind they show up as bursts of color. One of those events you feel privileged to have witnessed.

An interruption in my 2015 thread to bring back an old image. Nothing to see here unless you're Don Kuykendall

Don, this is from Escalante, the location I told you to head to.
