Aug 27th. While having lunch on the back porch, looking at Line's wildflower arrangement, I noticed a bumblebee circling around the bouquet. So I went in and got my trusted D700 with the Sigma 105 macro but, to leave more space between me and the beast I used my Tamron 1.4 Tele-Extender. I was shooting at f16 with the flash and a diffuser. Iso varies.

More WOW shots Marcel, Excellent job!

I was thinking how nice that 1.4 should make things and then realized, I am at a 1.5 crop... so I should be able to do near the equivalent!! (as far as "reach")

Marcel, did you use a built in flash or an external???

SB-700 with "Lumiquest" mini-softbox. I was using FP mode and manual. Took a few shots to get the exposure right and then just shoot away. It took a lot more shots to get these… :)

August 30th's flower of the day. D700, Sigma 105 macro plus Kenko 1.4 TC. SB-600 flash off camera with on-board flash used in commander mode. Iso 400, f-13.
Exceptionally made from my JPEG file that seemed a little softer than the raw one. In this case I prefer the softness for mood.
Have a great labor-day weekend while enjoying your Nikons.

August 30th. Here's part of the reason I haven't been as active as before on this forum:

So no more water in the basement?

No more water and it's almost finished. Floor covering installed, new laundry room downstairs all done. The only thing left to do is install baseboards, move my office downstairs and remodel my office to make an extra bedroom on the first floor… I should be done by Xmas when this new D710 comes out AH AH AH...

My grand daughter found this little critter while we went to get fresh carrots from our garden. Had to take the D700, SB-600 out with the macro lens...

The color and detail is fantastic

Thanks Don. I've come to be certain that flash is almost essential for macro work unless you can work in full sunlight. With my 105, I need at least f-13-16 to get enough DOF to make the picture interesting. Plus the flash removes the motion blur I'd get if I tried to do it without the flash. To get these apertures, I'd have to shoot at around 1/60s and that's very risky when you're that close to the critter.

I think I don't use my 70-200 2.8 often enough. I'm always amazed at the clarity and tones that I get with this lens. The way it gathers light is close to perfection. Iso 1250. 1/600 f3.5

Sept 1st. Weathered apples. They keep falling on my property from my neighbour's tree and she's old and can't pick them up, so I dispose of them in my compost area.

That's a lot of apples. They are quite expensive here in Japan.

They are here too, but these are affected by some kind of fungus I'd guess and they fall prematurely before getting ripe. The neighbour won't pay to have her tree sprayed, so we select the nicest ones and make stewed apples with them.
