Enjoy your new lens Lawrence.

I'm deliberately keep ing it off otherwise I think I may go ballistic! It is awesome.
I am trying to understand how the whole thing works???
The most amazing thing is when I am on 1:1 and look through the viewfinder at 90mm what I see is almost exactly the actual size. I guess that is the 1:1 part.
I have once more confirmed that I know so little about the technical side of gear!
Hey but the fun side is the important side.
Now if only it would stop raining.

Well you are not made of sugar so your not going to melt. get out there a take pictures of raindrops on leaves or something.

The D5100 is not Weather sealed. This is why I don't like going out taking photos in rain. I guess this is the reason why Lawrence doesn't go out too.

Congrats on the new lens @Lawrence. How are you fairing with it without vibration control?

Bugger I hadn't noticed ...
Now that I know I'll probably shake like a leaf. :)
Seriously though - absolutely no problem so far.
I am struggling a bit with the extremely narrow depth of field.

I'll just have to keep practicing. ;)

Macro time again!
Just yesterday I was hoping I could get one of these little guys to come out of their shell and today one did.

DOF is proving to be a challenge as I said above.
Sadly shortly after this photo was taken the flatmate came along and sent this little chap to snail heaven. :(

And another flower - just for practice.

I find the narrow depth of field quite challenging too. I try to keep the aperture small for macro shots and use a small flash, but this limits shutter speed to 1/320. Ideally I'd like faster especially for insects, but also to help alleviate my own body movement. I can't believe how much I move when I think I am perfectly still :D

I have taken a lot of shots today with my Macro lens and overall I am disappointed in me! But I am coming to terms with the lens.
I wanted it for a portrait (street photography type) lens and in that regard I am happy with it.

Just love the way the two little spoons in his great big paw match the colour of the chairs opposite him.

A big crop of his head.

And this little weed had incredible detail on it. There are a lot of tiny larvae that are clearly visible at 1:1
