Insects with non macro lenses

The only down side i see is you could have a larger working distance with a longer lens even if its only a macro feature on a normal lens.

Well after trolling these posts I do not think I need Macro lens after all. I Have a chance to buy a Nikon 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5 AF-S DX ED which will focus down to 15 inches I believe,at a good price I would then sell my 18-55 any input on that idea?

Check whether the 18-70 will have better magnification than the 18-55.

This was shot with my 18-55mm kit lens. I ran it through Photomatix and then cropped it... I chose to feature the whole rose bud instead of just the ladybug or the ant (the ant was a bonus).

Actually the ant is there to tend to the aphids. They get protection pay from the aphids in the form of the honeydew they excrete.
