Going through/processing pictures from today - could you help and let me know if they are too dark? I get so busy zooming in and out, that my eyes adjust to the colors but when I looked here at Nikonites, the screen seemed to bright so not sure if I darkened the pictures to much.
Got any other suggestions for improving anything, let me know

Love the one of the Lab in the water. That is so typical of them.
Got lots of waterpics, we just started at a green area.

We have a yellow Lab that absolutely loves to dive into our neigbhor's stinky pond and any puddle she can find, but just try to give her a bath. You would think we had been beating her for days.
Haha. Maybe you need to make your bathroom more like.. a pond

Thanks Roy! I am feeling more and more confident with these dog pictures, which really helps me focusing on the smaller details now. I am very glad that it seems you guys and girls in here see that.

So I learned a LOT.
1: Think about setting up some restrictions when doing free work! Maybe 2 days and around 40 different shootings were a bit too much. Some wanted just 1 picture but most wanted 2, some wanted 4 and even one wanted no less than 6 pictures (she got 3 dogs and wanted a portrait of them all, one with them all together, one with her and 3 dogs aaaand one with 6 dogs and 2 owners lol).
2: Do NOT show any of the pictures to the owners, they seem to remember as elephants and 2 mailed me back, what about the picture where the dog did xxxx. I get to choose which are the best
3: Consider straight away if the dogs shouldn't do a group shot. Some - even though they lived together - didn't want to sit/lay close and I am sure it was due to the situation (lots going on right next to us, people waiting for turn, me being weird with a big camera). If they dont seem to pose naturally, tell the owner they are going to get portraits of each dog instead. (For this, I mean when shooting like this with only short time for each dog - for a "normal" shooting we got plenty of time of course).
What I am talking about:
4: Do more shooting in bright sun!!! I have been avoiding this, as I think the pictures gets weird - but I for sure got the best pictures saturday, were we got full sunshine. Did the pictures more or less in the shade, but I had so many opportunities to make them pop more, because of the sun (through leafs, backlight etc).
5: Learn more about people portraits.
6: Do what you gotta do
At first, I was very nervous mailing some of the pictures, but it was clearly on the replys that I got more positive feedback on the ones not (more or less) straight out of the camera. You may wonder why I go around and think about this, but for many years I've been at a dog forum, posting tons of pictures. People always loved my pictures but as I've grown to get better and gotten more of "my editing style", some still love it - some apparently hate it, lol. Dont get me wrong, I dont need everybody to like my stuff, but of course you think hey, am I wrong, when people are saying they liked your pictures more before.
I do appreciate honest comments and I did some thinking, but in the end, I am here now, doing this and I am happy about it - so, of course thats how its going to be
7: My people skills aren't as bad as I thought, lol!
8: I seriously love shooting dogs! Okay, I knew that already hehe.
Learning off. This weekend me and my youngest dog are going on a getaway to Sweden, staying with his breeder and some of his brothers/sisters (and the owners). I can hardly wait

WUD, I am with marilynne on this... was just gonna suggest the same thing she did!! (She is one smart lady!)
Take what you want on a free shoot, maybe grant one or 2 requests but limit what they get for Free!! They can review all of pic 2 for free (in a standard size of your choosing if you are printing) and for additionals they pay..
Seems very fair!

Good idea, I forgot the details - for this event people actually paid, money went for renovation for a club (dog agility club). Its not a place I use.
I am really happy I did it but yesterday evening I was kind of, phew, no more pics please
Ok, the same should apply WUD, evena charity event where they pay... That should still buy them a limited number of pictures ... with additional available for purchase..
All in all, still a great learning experience... I am ready to take lessons!!
