I have now secured my D7100 on eBay and hope to have it by the weekend. The D3100 has been fantastic for the past year or two as my introduction to DSLR (having shelved my SLR some 10 years ago to focus on my children). I am expecting the upgrade to take me further along this fascinating path.

And I have it, it's powered up, I've run through the online manual, I'm about to check the firmware and then go and watch the Rembrance Sunday parade with it. Then I have a 9 week puppy to watch and my two year old to take for a long walk in the autumn sunshine. Bliss!

I made the same switch over the summer. I had introduced myself to SLRs with the 3100, shot with it for about a year and a half and then decided I love photography too much so I took the plunge into a more serious camera. I love the 7100.. Still learning it as I continue to shoot.

I stopped shooting in the 80's through pressure of work, but always had a yen to start again. my wife got me a d80 a few years beck which I loved. I switched to the D3100 last year but when the D7100 came out, it was a great opportunity to upgrade. I'm so pleased with this camera.

I'm thinking about a similar upgrade early next year(although from 3200.)

I have aver read about issues though with setting aperture in live view mode. Is this still the case? I shoot a lot of landscape and use live view for it and although maybe not a deal breaker, having to switch out of live view to change aperture and then back sounds like a pain.

Yes you need to set aperture before you start recording..No big deal..

Thanks. Seems very odd though considering aperture can be set in live view on the 3200, the entry level model and not on the flagship nikon cropped body.
It's no more odd than the fact that the 710 doesn't have the articulating screen that the 5200 has.

I just upgraded from the 3100 to a refurbished D7000. Only cost me $300 after I sold the 3100. Pretty excited to finally be able to use all the features that I was wishing I had before. Can't wait to get to know the new camera better.

I think Nikon views the articulating screen as a whimsical consumer grade feature, with no place on a pro or semi-pro body. I did like having it on my D5100.

I can see some pros getting some good use out of it though. But who knows what they think? :p

Hi guys,

Sorry to keep going on about this but I`m reading conflicting reports online about this and am just looking for clarification.
When I say changing aperture in Live View, I`m talking about in "Camera mode" when taking a still image not "Video Mode".
Some reviews say that you can adjust aperture in Live View in "Camera Mode".
