Yes you need to set aperture before you start recording..No big deal..I'm thinking about a similar upgrade early next year(although from 3200.)
I have read about issues though with setting aperture in live view mode. Is this still the case? I shoot a lot of landscape and use live view for it and although maybe not a deal breaker, having to switch out of live view to change aperture and then back sounds like a pain.
Thanks. Seems very odd though considering aperture can be set in live view on the 3200, the entry level model and not on the flagship nikon cropped body.Yes you need to set aperture before you start recording..No big deal..
It's no more odd than the fact that the 710 doesn't have the articulating screen that the 5200 has.Thanks. Seems very odd though considering aperture can be set in live view on the 3200, the entry level model and not on the flagship nikon cropped body.

I can see some pros getting some good use out of it though. But who knows what they think?I think Nikon views the articulating screen as a whimsical consumer grade feature, with no place on a pro or semi-pro body. I did like having it on my D5100.
