A dude is an individual, typically male, particularly somebody well dressed or who has never lived outside a big city. The female equivalent, which is used less often, is "dudette" or "dudess". However, "dude" has evolved to become more unisex to encompass all genders, and this was true even in the 1950s.

The word dude is an American English slang term generally used informally to address or refer to somebody and was once used primarily by adults but this has become a common slang term used in various age groups.

"Dude" is also a colloquialism used to infer familiarity between strangers. Rather than intrude too deeply into another person's personal information, another male may be addressed as "Dude" or "Bubba" as a way of avoiding the revelation of names or familial ties.

Are we cool, Dude? :)

A word that Americans use to address each other. Particularly stoners, surfers and skaters.

"Americans" includes the Canadians. Don't want to leave you guys out in the cold.

I think the correct term used by the "Surfers, Stoners, and Skaters" is Doooooooode

Pete's been calling me dude for ages now.....and I'm almost as old as he is! Almost. ;)

I have a special program that deletes and completely eliminates any vestiges of Norton, and anything that even resembles or smells like Norton, from anyone's computer. I absolutely HATE Norton anything! It's vile!
Like PavementPilot, I use Shaw Secure. It's free (comes with the internet account) and it works.

Just as an aside here.....if any of you are having problems with your email, such as scammers and spammers......may I suggest Mailwasher by Firetrust Software. Do a Google on it. I've been using it since it came out, and I can tell you, it absolutely works!

btw, the first featured photo of the week will be the winner of the photo challenge. :)

Hi there.

Sorry if I'm being obtuse but I don't understand the point of having a featured photo of the week that has already been "featured" as a weekly contest winner? I came back to this thread after seeing the POTW also being a contest winner to see if I missed something. The thread seemed to evolve from a photo of the day suggestion to a weekly selection, time specific from gallery uploads for each week (good idea) but loses it's purpose if the photos will be existing weekly contest winners. To that end I would humbly suggest that weekly contest winners are exempted from POTW consideration.

PS. Perhaps the clearly hilarious - but completely off topic - banter be spliced out and set up in a separate thread/different sub-forum. Tough to follow this topic with several pages of "Laugh-In" to wade through. :)

Being on the home page is considered an "honor" and it's also posted on FB and twitter whereas the regular threads are not.

I think the way jdeg has set this up is a good way to work into POTW or POTD and disagree that weekly contest winners should be excluded . . . they don't get any other prize except to be "deliberately featured" on the home page. This is still a very young site (less than 2 years) and is much more of a community than most of the other forums I've been to.

My personal opinion is that the banter is part of the charm of this group. If I want serious, I'll read a book. I like the interaction and the hijackings and all the humorous remarks that are tossed in amidst the serious stuff. It works for my brain to "bounce around" . . . I don't have trouble "wading through the laugh-ins", and I certainly don't want any members feeling that they should "stifle " themselves where humor is concerned.

IMHO

I think I must be missing something here...

But isn't the weekly photo contest of the week winner featured on the home page already? The contest winner should be more "celebrated" than the POTW selection from the galleries. Anyway, anyone can draw attention to any thread on FB or Twitter by linking back to it.

Again, I must be missing something. If the POTW contest winner is going to be selected as POTW choice, I don't see how this isn't redundant in every way other than the most hair-splitting way (i.e. the amount and location of the announcement)

You read far too much into my comment Helene. I'm not trying to stifle anyone. Yes, banter is definitely part of the charm of this group (and others I belong to). However when the banter posts exceed the "on-topic" posts, it gets tough to follow the thread. I'm not saying that with any bias or vitriol - just stating a fact.

Sorry if I've upset the social compact - however this section is called feedback and suggestions and I simply offered mine. I'm not trying to dictate, pontificate or even strongly suggest - I merely offered my thoughts on what I perceived to be a redundant aspect to both of the weekly photo activities, plain and simple.

To the thread and not necessarily to the post that contains the specific photo. Most threads have several pictures.

But isn't the weekly photo contest of the week winner featured on the home page already?
It is now because jdeg set it up to be the POTW and is titled as such. The "weekly challenge" that is on the home page is the current challenge and contains no photos.

I don't see how this isn't redundant in every way other than the most hair-splitting way (i.e. the amount and location of the announcement)
I see no redundancy. There is only one POTW (2 this week because of logistical reasons) and that title goes to the winner of the "weekly challenge". There is no other contest.

If it's difficult to follow, I suggest you simply scroll past them.

You've presented a recommendation that would suit you and yet affect other people without asking those "other people" if it suited them. or if they even had an opinion about it.

Have you ever chaired a committee that has been delegated a task? the most creative and worthiest solutions are generated in a meeting that is allowed a certain ammount of digression and frivolity and than brought back to task. Ant that's exactly what happened in this thread.

Your feedback and suggestions are always acknowledged and appreciated, James, and you're a welcome and valued member of this community.

Best Regards

^ what she said. Previously the weekly challenge winners were not featured at all, and it was difficult to tell who won the challenge.

Perhaps in the future we can do a photo of the day, but it will require some custom modifications to the gallery software.

I have to jump in here simply in the interest of accuracy. It is NOT possible to have a Photo of the Day. It would have to be a Photo of YESTERDAY! :)

Just being a smartass. You may now go back to your regularly scheduled lives.
