Obviously, people who are posting to the gallery are active. . . or are trying to be.
Not necessarily so. Some have posted to the gallery, gone away and simply left the photos there. I know for a fact because I've PM'd some and never got a response, which means they don't check into the forum. They just don't know what fun they're missing!

Everybody brought up some good points. I guess the logistics have to be worked out.

Good idea, Curt.

Thanks Guys, my idea was to just randomly post a picture each day (doesn’t matter who picks it) on the home page. Just to encourage members to post and to have other members become more curious to who’s picture had been picked that day (week whatever).
Let’s face it, we would all check in each day just to see which picture was chosen…lol.

Maybe Curt's idea can be easily implemented --I really like POTD, and perhaps the following might save some time and needless effort.
1. Open a new thread entitled "photo of the day"
2. Maybe no time restrictions on when the photo was taken, or at least, very loose. SHORT paragraph about the photo and a caption.
3. Photos need to be posted by noon EDT(maybe night before to help out those with odd working schedules or who live in non North American time zones) of the day they're to be considered.
4. Forum members vote by "liking" the photo.
5. Voting closes 5:00 PM --jdeg posts and tweets the winner by number of likes. It can workable if we keep it simple. It's going to be important to be consistent . . . that's what gets people here. Notice how many more entries we have in the weekly challenges now.

All this depends on jdeg's schedule . . . might interfere with candlelight dinners with his bride

Maybe jdeg could consider one of the mods to be a backup--permission to post on home page and twitter.

Just my thoughts . . . I admit I still don't know enough about these forum setups.

I forgot to mention that only one entry per day per member . . . this will force all of us to be more critical of our work and have to choose. Anyone who posts more than one will have the extras removed.

Also, maybe restrict comments (just for this post) . . . just a "like" . . . comments maybe can be sent PM . . . I don't know . . . I'm just thinking about jdeg having to wade through all the non-photo posts to get a vote tally --we do get carried away sometime. Personally, I like all the comments . . . but maybe we could save them for the other threads.

Again, just my thoughts!

hrm, this sounds like something that could be automated. In fact, here is something that worked with the old version of the software: vbGallery Addon: Photo of the Day - vBulletin.org Forum

The problem is it doesn't post the winner based on voting. Theoretically, it could be modified to do so, but it's still not for the same version we use.

I'll have to see what I can find. In the mean time I see no problem with posting the winner of the photo challenges to the homepage.

Also, I am going to dinner tonight. lol

All this talk about dinner & Taco Bell makes me want to treat Helene to my favorite Italian restaurant, hell they even have good music. Just don't tell my wife, she's a hazel eyed Sicilian need I say more.
Enjoy your dinner tonight jdeg only hope it's not at Taco Bell!!!

We're big time here in the hills of Virginia. Have a combination Taco Bell/KFC/Pizza Hut Express. I fondly refer to it as the Kentucky Fried Taco Hut. It's either that, or a McDonalds or drive 15 miles to a TGI Fridays (20 to an Outback)
