No new lenses for me for a while because I bought an old S10 pickup today. I am still getting a Fuji in a few months though guess I might have to convert all my glass. Shot a roll of film today think I got a few decent snaps was primarily concentrating on focusing (missed a bunch of good lighting situations)...we'll see what happened tomorrow when I get them back.

Why are you shooting film & spending money on developing etc?

Sam - because I can sir! If you had a F2 Eye-level finder mint condition camera that works like a Swiss watch you would probably shoot it from time to time too. Plus it is FX...lol

Rocky - The Fuji camera I am talking about is a special Fuji sensor that has been put into a Nikon D200 body. So for all intents and purposes it is basically a F mount Nikon. The Fuji S5 Pro is known as "the Wedding camera" because of it's great colors and wonderful rendition of skin. It also handles highlights and light fall off exceptionally well because of the sensor (much like a film camera in this regard). An old camera true but it has a few bells and whistles that are specifically aimed at portraiture.

Jeff, I see a Fuji S5 Pro for sale in Australia at the moment for $400.
Is that in line with what they are going for over your way ?

They're bringing more than that here more like 600 or higher for low actuations...high demand from wedding folks...That camera was a whopping 1800 when new (2007 I think) and for as old as it is the money they get for them is kind of crazy as it just a 6 MP rig really. The new Nikons (post D5000) actually have more dynamic range but you ain't gonna get the smooth transitions with white like you can with the Fuji sensor.

When I get the Fuji what it is going to do for me beyond the great colors that sensor renders is it will allow me to expose for the detail in the shadows which means it overexposes the highlights. With the Fuji and LR you can grab a whole bunch of detail out of those lost highlights. This is a film shot I was thinking about the focus mainly...my light meter did a fair job of reading the light. The F2 is an amazing machine.

OK this is Ben...if I would have had about a half stop of underexposure here this one would be better...if I had been using some better film it would have been better...if I had shot this same snap with the Fuji S5 Pro you would be blown away...the lens is almost 40 years old BTW and has a few flecks of dust in it I see... :)

I barely missed the focus on this one...

See what I did? The ears are sharp but the eyes and nose are just a tiny tiny bit off. Common mistake. Plus it is just bland...the light just doesn't get it. It doesn't pop at all.

All in all a decent roll of film I am happy with it. You all ought to take your DSLR out sometime and give yourself only 24 exposures. No redos or deletes...you gotta make each and every one count...it will help you to "focus" on your photography! :)

Most of those shots made at f5.6 shutter speed 125 or 250...rated at 400 (I wish I would have rated it at 500 so it would have underexposed a little bit)

You don't need a fast lens or a big aperture to blur backgrounds...
