Yes I've always struggled with manual focus even with my film cameras...despite having one of the brightest viewfinders ever made and about 6 different screens for the F2 I still have the problem...

What I probably ought to do is what any normal person would do and go get myself a darn AF lens...lol

Have you tried using the live view to adjust your focus or maybe use a tripod for that ultimate sharpness and focus combination? :D

I use the live view and the electronic rangefinder both...I've found that I do better with getting it somewhere around the green dot and then concentrating on what I see in the viewfinder and slightly rolling the focus ring back and forth until I can see the sweet spot if that makes any sense...

You bring up a great point about the tripod...I don't have one but sure would like to because I am shakey for sure it would help tremendously...I just ain't gonna buy a Wal Mart one...I constantly look in the thrift shops antique stores pawnshops etc have not seen a good tripod yet...

Look online for an old Star D aluminum tripod. These are work horses and you can get them for really reasonable amounts. I still have mine and it was probably made in the 60's or 70's. I rarely use a tripod for the type of stuff I shoot but it's in my trunk just in case. I just saw one on my local Criagslist for $50

"STAR-D" PROFESSIONAL TRIPOD
ADJUSTABLE TO 65"
PAN/TILT
HEAVY DUTY STURDY ALUMINUM $50

Look in your area and see what's available.

Rick, in all my years of photography, I have never heard of the Star D tripod! After looking it up on line, looks like a pretty sturdy tripod. I checked them out on eBay, and saw some of them going for $35. Quite the bargain for an aluminum, well built tripod. I also learned that the Davidson company was started in the 50's.

These have been used by pro's for decades now. Well worth a look in my humble opinion. I got mine from a pro back in the 80's. It had a lot of history before that. (Held many Nikon F2's/F3's/F4's in it's day) He had probably 4 of these tripods. Mine is scratched and well used but it works like a champ and I would bet it will keep working for another 50 years.

My manfrotto must be getting on, since I bought it for a film Medium Format camera lol. Its probably about time I had a new one. I wouldnt hesitate in buying another manfrotto. A realy intresting tripod thats different and works well though is the benbo trekker. Its brittish and im not sure its available in the states, but it has a massive following and everyone that uses them seem to swear by them.

I really like doing sim HDR stuff with my point and shoot. It is like more raw or something.
This group of deer in the backyard was actually three but one of them was hanging back in the woods. They were snorting and sqawking and baying at the cat for some reason tonight it was very weird and unusual behavior...

Two views of the Stone Lady in Belize. I guess part of the structure was significantly deteriorated when they excavated it so they took it upon themselves to get crafty with concrete...if the people who built it and lived there were able to see it they would probably say WTF!!! LOL

This one was made by my new found D7000 toting buddy Ted...he used the 18-300 and was standing a good 100 to maybe 150 yards away from where I was...

You all like my camo camera bag with custom made sling? :) I also have a new custom made camera strap! Now if I could just remember to keep my elbows tucked in I might be able to make a good snap...hahaha

When our tour group arrived upon the site of the Stone Lady I spied these fellows off to the side and immediately shot a 3 snap bracketed sequence from the hip and then dropped the camera to my side like nothing happened. After we went through the tour and came back down to that initial point I approached these guys held up my camera and said photograph please? One of them put his hand with index finger out and gestured no no no...to bad I already had the snap long before then. haha :)
