Nice shots Doug.
How did you manage to get the one in the air? Its a pity though that it wasn't spinning a bit more

Is this a case of "You must have a great camera …"? ;)

manually focused my lens for a set distance. Put the camera on a tripod flipped with the left hand and waited for it to cross my focus plane and snap. I had to use flash and that gave it that classic frozen look.

March 6th, 65/365!!

Brutus was looking a wee bit depressed today. I guess I have been spending too much time with the Nikons ;ately. So, why not point the Nikon at him?!

Om. Had to rush off from my photo shoot today and did not get any time to upload even for processing. So tune in Sunday for Friday and Saturday photos.

And my laptop looks like a loss. Bummed.

I have now figured out why I was up till 5am today! My wonderful gf had a leftover flavored water she mixed up for work. And since I drink a ton of water she gave it to me to drink around 1am. Well me being the water geek I am swigged it down.

Well what she didn't realize was that it was her energy water. Yep....that's right. And since quitting sodas, I can not have caffeine late at night now. Well the gf being lovable and as helpful as she can slipped me the energy water with a whopping 160mg of caffeine ( unknowingly...so says her mind you.). So...4 hours of sleep later.....I now am drinking another one....

i get the feeling I will be in trouble later.

Alright. The shot that has me totally disgusted with myself.

Silky Water (1 of 1).jpg

I hiked quite a bit into the woods today (march 9) to do a little exploring and birding. So I took along the D610. Well I get back a mile or two and come across a stream crossing. Just basically 6 big rocks to make hopping stones across the stream. So here I am scouting around looking for a photo opportunity, and then I found it! Time to smooth out some water! I get to the sandbar in the middle of the stream in good position for the shot. Out comes the tripod, and I start going through the motions of adjusting leg height, angle, yada yada. Put on my CPL, because I need to cut the light. And then I start to dig into my camera settings.

At about this time I can start to hear people coming my way. I don't think much of it, I am at a hiking area. So I get my setting down, everything is good. Then here it comes. The Chocolate Lab from hell. Two of them actually. And me with a tripod and my very new and very expensive camera....in the middle of a stream. Standing a very small patch of gravel. In a stream. So...the two labs see me and they are off! Running full tilt tongues a flapping and eyes full of mischief. Yay for me!

The owners happen to round the bend just as the Labs had closed the distance to 20 feet. Now mind you I am now in my mind running through practical self defense moves and trying to figure out a way to use them on two Labs. Which means I am completely at a loss as to what to do. Well the owner yelled and brought the dogs to a halt! (Good dogs) Saw me and told me that they wouldn't hurt me. (Not me I was worried about) We spent a second chatting while the rest of his family and their friends (another family with another dog on a leash) caught up.

Now my little photo shoot was starting to get a little crowded what with the two free roaming dogs and now the 8 people that just showed up. So since I had just set up my camera and things, and these new people didn't really show any signs of moving on, I snapped my picture and got out of dodge! While I couldn't really be mad(it is public land after all) I was a little put off by the whole experience. But wouldn't you know...30 yards down the trail I spotted a pair of Pileated Woodpeckers and all was forgotten. Until I got home. And that's when I saw it. Blurry photo. So I ran through the whole scene again. Everything that happened and all the settings I put in. My tripod was solid, for gravel anyways. Settings were good. So what went wrong?

Then it hit me. In my haste to get a shot and then leave the area of the two Labs from hell. I got all the settings right, but forgot a very important switch. Just one tiny little thing really. And it is one that you wouldn't really think would matter. But oh yes it does. It can and usually will be the difference from a photo that you can be proud of, to a photo you throw up on your 365 and say "Don't do this stupid thing I did today!". Which is leave your VR on....when on a tripod.

Well...there is always tomorrow. Because I am going to have to go back there tomorrow, I want my shot.

Okay Doug let me get this straight…

1. The GF accidentally gives you something to keep you awake at 1 a.m. - with no ulterior motive.
2. Then you happen to pass a Church which happens to be close at hand ….
3. This is followed by a photograph entitled "chained up" … is this some sort of cover up?
4. Is there proof of a subtle message in the "Not a rolling stone"? - gathers no moss perhaps because you are putting down roots?
5. Ah yes there it is the "Tumbled Giant" covered in moss and now you are disgusted with yourself!!!

Too Late buddy!!

When is the big day? :applouse:
