I caught this little fella trying to sneak up on me! (Testing out the new tripod and head on some long shutter speeds inside. Freaking -7F with the wind here.)

Well its official! I love the Manfrotto 055XPROB with the Vanguard SBH-250. They are built like a tank. I think the combo weighs in at roughly 6.6 pounds. Its pretty beefy, but in a good way. I am way more confident with this set up than my previous tripod combo.

While this combo wasn't super expensive. (The tripod was purchase still in box from a friend for $80, and the SBH-250 was roughly the same price) I am pretty happy and feel that it was money well spent.

The Vanguard is also really well built. The thing feels solid and has a pretty good heft to it. it is rated at I believe 44lbs. No slipping whatsoever with this thing. And it moves and pivots without any catches or hiccups. I also like the square safety button for the plate. And the locking dial really lets you snug that plate down into position. For the money I believe this is quite a bargain for a budget setup. Again I am very satisfied for the money spent.

A big thanks goes to @Ironwood for the tip on the SBH-250. You were right. I can't find a fault with it either.

My Gimbal tests are being done on my benbo.rock solid but can be a pain to set up quickly so if the Gimbal works for me i will need something else.

Only got some test shots in the front garden of stationery subjects, used stupidly slow shutter speeds for a 400mm and very pleased, its easy to move from one subject to another, the only thing i doubt i will use it for is BIF i know they are supposed to be great for them but i like the freedom hand holding gives me for those, that may change though after the getting used to it period.

Glad you like the SBH-250, I am still amazed with how good mine is for such a low price that it cost me. You got a bargain on those Manfrotto legs, they are much much more expensive over here .

Uninspired. Did too many errands and almost had nothing to show for it. Remembered my photo at the last moment.
