I started photography in B&W and really loved it. In fact I still have some on the wall that I did 30 years ago BUT I have yet to do one with my digital cameras that I really like. I think the difference is the texture of the paper when I printed in B&W. Also I think the subject in a B&W shot has to fit that mood.

I love the alpaca in B&W. It's okay in color but has a lot more character and the texture of the fleece on its head stands out more in B&W.
