Enjoy mate, it sure adds a new dimension to the lenses that it goes on.

It has been pretty fun seeing what it can do. And for the price it isn't a bad pickup at all. It really shines on the long end of the 55-200. I didn't really like it much on the 18-105. Too much vignetting, and since it is only 105 the magnification seemed to be a lot less than on the 200. Also the 55-200 has no vignetting....so I can use the whole frame and get as many pixels on the subject as possible.

Just remember to set focus at its closest focus point and that should remove any vignetting.

Alright. Tweaked a few old photos in Nik Silver Efex2, and I need some opinions on how these look.

1st one up.

Thanks snaphappy! I used a warmer sepia color on it. I am thinking I might try the other one the same way. Thanks for the feedback! I ham leaning towards the 1st shot, it is going to be printed and framed for my aunt....but sometimes I am too critical of myself and need a little help.

JMHO but I like the tangled woods of the first one with slightly warmer colour. Just need a red hooded kid and a picnic basket…

Funny you mention a kid in the photo. The first snap I took of that path a jogger came around the bend an ruined the shot. (my shutter was too slow for a runner) She actually thought highly enough of herself to gripe at me for taking her photo.

She didn't take it to well when I told her to stop ruining my lovely scenery. Our conversation went quickly down hill from there. I never did get her number...but she did show me she thought I was a number one photographer....
But her sweatshirt was purple...not red. And no picnic basket but a phone with earbuds.

Ok. Since getting the Nik Tools I have been pretty focused in learning about them. which doesn't leave a ton of time for new photos. So I am doing a lot of edits.

Such as this.

Nik Tools seems to make edits a lot quicker. And for me the interface seems pretty neat and straightforward.

I have noticed you can over process very quickly with Nik. Where as LR5 I really have to tweak something bad to go too far.

Love the color and shot. Much better with Nik?

To be honest I could probably duplicate the Nik edit in LR5. But Nik seems to streamline the workflow. The first shot was just adjusted for exposure in LR5. The second shot was copied into Nik Color Efex2 and adjusted just using some sliders for contrast, detail, and a touch of saturation.

I feel like I have been neglecting my LR5 but the Nik tools for quick edits are just so much faster. I will have to delve deeper into LR5 to make a better comparison. One thing of note is Nik tools is not nearly as versatile as LR. Its more for final tweaks and just adding that touch just so. Or even that little bit extra for that added pop factor.

But this is just my feel for it so far. your mileage will more than likely vary than mine.

My main tool is Vivesa. You have to master adding control points. remember that you can add as many control points as you want in the same photo. Like for me a blue sky with nice clouds is a great example. Add as many control points as you need to to cover the sky. then select all those controls point and then adjust the sliders to control just the sky. Brightness down, saturation up and structure up. You can see details you have never seen before. And you already know not to over cook it. Pick each area of the photo like that and you can work wonders.

The Vivesa plugin actually just started working with my update to LR5.3. Before it never worked unless I went in and forced it in LR. (Manually select it) So I haven't played with it much. Seems I have some youtube to watch later....
