D600 shutter replacement news

I'm gonna hold out longer until I have the D9300 to keep me busy while the D600 is out getting refreshed :)

Hoping you're not waiting next to all the D400 people. They seem to have been standing around so long I'm not sure they remember what they were waiting for any longer.

UPDATE: Keep in mind that I sent my D600 to the LA facility, on March 1st. It stayed there for over a week, then Nikon decides to ship my camera from LA to their NY facility, due to an overload of D600 repairs. Next, they tell me that my camera is now in the shop of the NY facility. Today, I look online and find out that my repairs are on delay, due to being on, "Parts Hold." I call Nikon and they confirm that my camera is on hold because of Nikon being out of stock on this specific part. We shall see . . .

That sucks. Thanks for sharing. Looks like everyone should wait a bit. I haven't heard if there is an expiration of this shutter replacement offer. Can I send mine in 2015???

Funny thing is I was one of them, gave up as soon as the D600 was released. Now I may end up with both :)

There isn't any expiration date listed as of right now (last updated on March 28th). This is what they say:

Nikon is making available to all owners of D600 cameras (even if Nikon’s product warranty has expired) this customer-service measure, which includes the inspection, cleaning and replacement of the shutter assembly and related parts of your camera, FREE OF CHARGE as well as the cost of shipping D600 cameras to Nikon and their return to customers.

Most of us had to pay the shipping to get the camera there on its first servicing under warranty so they've even changed that policy.

And here is the link where you can read their entire statement in full:

Thanks! I went on the website and although I purchased my D600 in China it says I can send it in (input my serial number). I'm just worried they would send it back to me. I don't trust Nikon China too much. I'm more concerned with the delivery and communication than the actual repair. I'll have to call and confirm before I send it in the US. Ideal for me would be if I could keep self cleaning until the D800s comes out then send mine in the US for a shutter replacement. Maybe only a dream though.

I just had a Chinese colleague call the local service center and ask them how they are handling it. He said you have to physically take the camera to them (luckily a 15 minute walk from my apartment) and they will inspect and clean it. If it happens again, bring it back again and they clean a second time. On the 3rd time they replace it with a D610.

Now I regret spending all that money on a loope and swabs and cleaning my sensor 5 times.... I may just put mine on CH and fire off 2000 exposures to get the spots to happen 3 more times... My colleague told them I've self cleaned it many times but they said they have to document the cleanings themselves. Grrrrr.

Have to say... I needed to send my d600 back in to Nikon. I did not want to deal with the LA office again, so I spoke with a senior manager and he set me up to send to Melville NY. I AM IMPRESSED!!! They received the camera today... I got notice right away that it was in the shop and they were going to replace it.
Every time I send to LA it takes at least 2 weeks for them to even acknowledge they have it.
I had a d600 that was clean when I bought it... no dust/oil issue. Sent to LA first time for cleaning under warranty and it was a shutter replacement... #1 then #2 then #3 all in the last 6 months. Finally now, Melville is sending me a replacement d610 and they notified me of that the same day they received the camera. I'm in shock!

Mark, Did they give you an ETA? NY has had mine for 2 weeks, finally I got the message that they were replacing the camera, but said I have to wait in line, and couldn't give me any time frame for receiving it.
I kinda need to know since I use it for my business.

They didn't say. It just shocked me how fast they communicated with me vs LA. in regards to having the camera in there hands.

I've been waiting for my D610 replacement a week now, I called today and was told I am next in line and should go out this week.

I am located in Calgary AB, and sent my camera to Vancouver service center.

Every time I've sent a camera to California ( el segundo and now la ) I've had to wait a month. 2 weeks to get into their system, a week on parts hold, and a week in shop. So I'm used to being without for a month at a time. If I get my replacement within that time frame, I'm ok with that. I'm just stoked that I got notified the day they received delivery

Given all the time and effort it takes to both clean these sensors multiple times and then offer an upgrade to the D610, it seems to me that it would be far more cost effective to just offer anyone with a D600 a free upgrade to a D610. They would be required to return their defective D600 and upon receipt would be sent a new D610 directly from the factory.

On the negative side, it would most likely cause the secondary market price for a D610 to take a pretty good hit but it sure would go a long way in making D600 owners a little less sensitive to the subject.

Question........ For the folks that have received a D610 as a replacement...

Are ya'll receiving a New in box D610 with all the accessories...straps, battery, charger, etc...????

or

Are you receiving a white box, body only, no accessories????????????

Which leads me to another question...

Does Nikon give you a list of specific things to include when you send them the D600???? And do you include things like the battery and strap????? Or do you remove both the battery and strap, and only send the bare body?????

If you include the battery and strap, what do they do???? Do they send a naked body, or a body with your old battery and strap?????

Fred <--- Just trying to prepare for the inevitable... :(

Fred, from Nikon's web site→"Nikon will either replace your camera with a new D600 camera or its equivalent model." Someone on here didn't send everything back, but it wasn't a problem for him to receive a refund (when Nikon was offering refunds).
