Last night I went to get hay with hubbys truck after I got kids from school and the fella has sooo many great old old buildings. Wish I wasn't busy loading dusty hay because I only got a couple tries at capturing some of them

I had another shot without the snow plow but liked the spot of colour and modern with the old and monochrome colour of the snow and aged wood

Hubby and old fella thought I was nuts taking a photo of these great old buildings

Tried removing powerlines over and over but it just kept looking yucky

I just gotta ask! How in the world do you keep your Nikon safe with all the dogs, ducks, horses, excetera competing for your attention? Wow! Even more confusing is where you find the energy! Lol I'm tired just thinking about what you must have to do on a daily basis! Wow! :D

haha Bill16 I've found capturing the brown beast in motion darn near impossible. Some girls just don't look pretty when they run hahaha Shutter speed 1000 in order to capture all that floppiness or she just looks like an unattractive blur LOL She runs like a bear and all that loose skin and fur in motion is not attractive :)

I chose the D7000 for being a bit better in the weather and I take it out all the time except when riding/working with horses or doing yucky chores. The camera was in the truck so just pulled it out to take photos and put it back in with doors closed. Hay gets into EVERYTHING! I'll have to try the buildings again during the day since it was after school (3:30-4pm) so already getting pretty dark. I tried to adjust colour a bit to make less blue but didn't look nice. Best try to it again on a brighter less blue tinged day

I have 3 young kids I know how to muli-task :) Hubby and I grew up in the suburbs so hobby farm is all new learning for us. You should see my 5ft self hooking up frozen hose to kitchen faucet, out through kitchen window and hauling water with 2 5gallon buckets 120ft through the snow LOL it's usually about 4 trips a day for horses goats and then 2 trips for the waterfowl. My eldest waters his chickens and turkeys and rabbits. However, I haven't bought eggs in 3yrs, haven't bought any type of dairy product yogurt, sour cream, cheese and ice cream (except butter, goats milk naturally homogenized so butter not a real option) in over a year as I've learned to do it myself, and we grow and process our own poultry for the past 2yrs. Also have 2 gardens about 50x60ft where we grow as many things as we can in our short growing season and I can. I don't get as much time as I'd like to be able to sit down uninterrupted and learn photo stuff but I make time and just keep trying :)

I love learning new things. "Jack of all trades, master of nothing" but it makes life interesting :) Having an easy going hubby who puts up and helps me with all my crazy ideas is a great bonus.

Hubby wasn't impressed about his truck especially since I backed in instead of going in forwards dumping and coming out. It meant getting out was near impossible with bumper down in the clay... If I'd gone the other way hooking onto trailer hitch and pulling it out would have been easy. He was more grumpy at himself for getting hurt and not being able to help me. His truck got mucky but no other harm was done. I called roadside assistance LOL and stood in complete darkness with them until they unstuck me from the back yard hehehe My sweet and sour pork with chow mein turned out great though and followed by a huge square of nanaimo bar for desert and he didn't grumble much :)

Good thing we live in such a wonderful varied beautiful world hey Michael :) Oh I get tired of all the white but right now it adds such a lovely clean fresh sparkly look to everything. Snowmobilers had a grand time flying up and down our road last night. Kids had a great time at school lunch break sledding and playing. As long as snow isn't heavy wet warm snow it can be great fun and after activities outside in the cold its great to snuggle up with family :)

We are supposed to get several inches of white rain starting late tonight. We need the moisture but I don't mind bare ground in Nov. I really don't mind the snow so much except we almost always get screaming wind afterward

snaphappy, I love that you show us/me such great photo. What is the result? I have to go with my daughter to Dreamworld Bangkok cos now she would like to see snow so much and touch it. At Dreamworld the have a Snow-town.

The cold takes some time to get used to, I spent most of life living on the "wet" coast lol so I've grown to much prefer fluffy snow to mucky yucky rain.

More years ago than I'd like to admit I worked at a ski resort. I have a fantastic memory of a young family from Florida that on a whim showed up on the hill and were so excited about seeing snow for the first time. They wanted to get out in it but they were wearing Florida clothes!!! I couldn't believe my eyes! dressed in t-shirts hehehe but they so wanted to experience everything. I thought they were out of their minds! But their excitement was so incredibly infectious I raided the lost and found dressed them warmly but very mis-matched LOL and they ended up spending 3 days. They were first out on the mountain and last in at night and even taking in the nighttime toboggan and tube runs :) I'd even found some crazy carpets in lost and found and the parents had as much fun or more than their kids. When you live somewhere you sometimes forget to appreciate the magic. They made me realize how lucky I was to have such a great job and experience. Their absolute joy (and the fact that they showed up on a ski mountain in capri pants and tshirts LOL) has stuck with me and still makes me smile.
