Thanx Eyelevel I've been experimenting much more now and yes the rainbow and lightning night my light meter was telling me I was waaaaay underexposed but if I changed settings to get to 0 my shots looked like daylight which ruined what I wanted to capture. BUT now that I understand what that little +......0.......- thing is telling me I can now play more creatively with ALOT less frustration and I haven't had to switch to P (teacher called it pre-fessional mode LOL) in the last couple of weeks! My manual makes MUCH more sense now that I understand the terminology as well. Now I got hubby interested in using my camera as well so it makes it even more fun to snap and play

These next series of images aren't well composed or anything as I had no way to move around now and the older pics were before my class but they tell a story

The mtns are melting fast

First is taken on Easter Sunday my son walking along the snow covered river bed of the Fraser with other people playing out under the train bridge
nik_0968.jpg

The same train bridge now and the water has already started to recede which is why the road is open now so I could stand and take this
nik_4858.jpg

The road I am standing on was closed when the water was even higher

Another view of the river bed on Easter Sunday
nik_0915.jpg

Up above the trees on the right is a big grassy area and farther up a big parking lot for those walking/jogging along the river pathways

Here I am standing on the path along the parking lot shooting at the ducks down in the riverbed below
nik_1137.jpg

Wow was my sensor filthy for these pics! yikes

Now here is the road down to the parking lot
nik_4863.jpg

A closer view of the parking lot using my 300mm
nik_4868.jpg

Thats a garbage can lid (no wonder they're so locked down to the ground!) and one of the wooden posts to keep vehicles off the pathway

An even closer cropped view of the garbage to give an idea of depth and that is some VERY fast moving water
nik_4873.jpg

A little farther up the small river that empties into the Fraser
I took this pic about 3 weeks ago as the kids and I talked about watching their school burn
nik_2663_784284.jpg

Here is the same path to nowhere now
nik_5020.jpg

And taking a few steps back
nik_5016.jpg

The path to nowhere is on the other side of the concrete block to the left. To the right is the parking lot and straight ahead is a pathway we take often

I've been trying to figure out a way to store my photos safely because my macbook is screaming NOOOOO. Uploading shots from my card and processing has become impossible with my computer saying no no no :(
I'll upload these separately. Which do you find more pleasing?

Have you run out of space? Maybe you need to get an external hard drive for storage or backup. I ended up upgrading my MacBook Pro's hard drive from 500 GB to 1TB. I also back up my images (raw and jpeg) on an external hard drive plus my file server and my other laptop that uses Ubuntu Linux. Just call me the department of redundancy department.

Yes ran out of space on my computer. No apple repair stores anywhere near us but when we head south I may look into adding more space. My external just crapped out a couple weeks ago with no warning so I'm leary of external drives but alot of my older pics are now only on my computer so looking to see if I can find a card reader thats a writer as well so I can have back up of them. Wish I were more computer savvy

It's really easy to replace your MacBook's hard drive. I've done it a couple of times. You can even get on Apple's Website support section. They have directions there. Or go to macsales.com (also known as "Other World Computing"). They have videos that are very, very good. I know you live in Canada, so I am not sure how easy it would be to order an external hard drive from them, but check their site out for information, at least. It will be a whole lot cheaper than the Genius Bar at the Apple Store.

at first glance i did not see the rainbow in the first picture, to many distractions. Second, i would haved tried for more rainbow, less landscape. If your pictures have filled up the hard drive storage back them up onto an external hard drive and delete from the hard drive.

I would get a new external hard drive. You should be able to get a Seagate or Western Digital (I like the Seagate drives better, but that's just me) external hard drive USB 3/2 for about $85-100 depending on where you purchase it and if it's on sale or not. Then do what Ron said.

Lately I've been enjoying the birds which have returned
The swallows are the most amazing with their aerial acrobatics and following or trying to figure out where they will go is nearly impossible. Up close we only see the lovely brown and blue Barn swallows because they nest in our barn but with my camera I've realized most that we watch flying are violet-green swallows I think
Here's some from a recent attempt

Until today when I had a look at my pics I thought they were all barn swallows because thats what we see up close when they nest with that lovely bright reddy breast. When they fly its so quick we just assumed they're all the same. Turns out most are actually the Violet-green swallows. I love my 70-300mm who needs binoculars when you can capture it and have a closer more detailed look :)

I like the Swallows, very nice. I had two male cardinals chase each other around my backyard a few weeks ago. It's amazing how agile they are.

Blackbirds and I agree crows should be chased away as well!

Anyone with advice on getting black coloured birds to not look like silhouettes? Grey mornings definately don't help I know
