Borneo Adventure

Funny, all the shots of wildlife and my favorites so far are the one's of the monks. Just goes to show that photography is more than the mastery of the technical, but more importantly, the ability to capture a feeling/mood/vibe/emotion.

Fantastic shots Lee! I was in Borneo for a fortnight back in April and it was absolutely stunning. My highlights certainly came from spending time on the Kinabatangan. Sadly I hadn't bought my DSLR at that point as funds were a little low, so I missed out on taking some photos of a lifetime.
All I can say is you really captured the beauty and essence of Borneo, both its people and it's wildlife!

Congratulations on seeing Orangutans and Pygmy Elephants in the wild, we weren't so lucky but we did see Bornean Gibbon which somewhat made up for it.

Thanks for sharing your trip with us.

Thanks Elliot for replying to this old thread, otherwise I never would have come upon it, as it showed up in in "new posts"

Great shots Lee!

Thanks Elliot. Like you we thoroughly enjoyed our time in Borneo and I would recommend it as a place to visit to anyone. Shame you didn't see the wild Orangutan and elephants but I guess that's wildlife for you. I just had a look back in my Lightroom catalogue and I still have a lot of unprocessed files, think it's time for a revisit!

Definitely post some more if you have time, would love to see them! Like yourself, I'd recommend it to anyone. For those interested in snorkeling and diving, the seas off Borneo are just as spectacular as the jungles!

Well just dragged up this old thread as we have booked to return to Borneo in October. Can't wait!
This time we will have one night in Kuala Lumpur before heading to Borneo. We will be spending all of our time around the Danum valley and Kinabatangan river so wildlife will be the order of the day.
My gear has changed a bit since last time as well. I'll be taking the D610, Sigma 105 macro, Nikon 24-70 f2.8 and of course the Tamron 150-600. Think I may need some more memory cards and a bigger luggage allowance!

Hi Lee, not surprised you're making a return visit to this incredible island. Not sure I'll get the chance to go back again but I'd certainly like to. Really looking forward to seeing the results when you get back. I'm not too jealous though as I'll be in Aus and New Zealand at about the same time, my first trip abroad with a DSLR, otherwise I certainly would be.
We also stayed in Kuala Lumpur for one night. If you want the most incredible all you can eat buffet, I recommend a trip to the Sheraton Hotel. It was £20 per person but what you get for that is very impressive.
I'm sure you'll have a fantastic time and that looks like the perfect set of lenses for this trip. 600mm definitely handy on the Kinabatangan and so many insects for the 105mm. I'm getting excited just thinking about it and I'm not even going.
