Another myth to debunk about Canada

Thats funny Moab.

You have to take what the media says about guns and other hot topic items with a grain of salt. Its up to you to do your due diligence to find out if they reported facts or opinions.

As far as Americans and their guns, its a very small percentage that stockpile and an even smaller percentage that has a bunker. You can blame this myth on the preppers tv shows. We dont all carry them in the glove box.

I have left a many of forums because of topics like this. Perceptions and opinions are detrimental to society.

Try turning off the one sided news station or not visit their site and you will see the world is not coming to an end.

And Kodiak, I am sure you have a point to prove here, but like others I am scratching my head and wish you would just say what bugged you about his post.

Hope you don't leave this forum. I very rarely watch the news anymore. I instead turn on our TFC (The Filipino Channel) box and watch Tagalog shows, lol.

I think Kodiak's point is the posting the news here is spreading the sensationalism (not to say your creating it).
I could be wrong. :)

Thats kind of the way I was thinking as well, but would prefer he gives that to us. I never like to put words in someones mouth.

And no worries, if this post head south like others that caused me to leave other sites then I will simply choose not read it anymore.

I think you are right. However, the article itself did not "sensationalize" the event, at least not in my opinion. Therefore, the only thing that is being spread, is a news article.

So you don't see my point… look again!

Kodiak, you seem to have a reasonable grasp of the language and you sure as hell aren't shy! Why not just tell us what the problem is with the post?

That way, there can't possibly be a continued mis-understanding.

BTW...

Diplomacy has NEVER been my strong suite!

I'm sorry. I was not trying to put words in anyone's mouth. I was just trying to explain my understanding of what he said. This is why I added that I could be wrong.I had no intention of speaking for anyone but myself, and what I understood or like I said that I could have possibly misunderstood.

One of the best things about us is that we can still laugh at ourselves . . . It's when we lose our sense of humor that things go "south"

(BTW, I'm very proud of how nicely you "boys" are playing. Thank you)

Change some of the items in the above and it could be anywhere . . . whackos are not country or culture specific.

The sensationalism isn't referring to a lie. It referring to points in the news that is not directly related to the crime( in my opinion). The guns in his house that were not used in the crime, and was just used to add to the facts to increase interest in the report. It makes it seem that the amount of guns owned is directly connected to the criminal act. Where as there is nothing that can or will prove this at this time(in my opinion), so it was just added to create interest by giving the impression that there is a direct connection between the amount of guns owned to the commission of the crime they are talking about. This I believe this is sensationalism.

But this is all just my personal opinion.

I think you are right. However, the article itself did not "sensationalize" the event, at least not in my opinion. Therefore, the only thing that is being spread, is a news article.

Good analysis. I also believe that the 182 guns were mentioned, because it is just unheard of around here. The French news folks got hold of this info first - I am guessing from the police - and reported it. I think that not only were the media surprised, but so were the police. For me, it is an important fact because I would like to know where those guns are and how safe they are being kept. He already shot at the police, so he was not shy in using his guns. I am leaning more towards it being an important fact. But that is how I feel about i.

There is no gun culture in Canada,
people don't own guns in Canada,
there are not a lot of guns in Canada....
and the list goes on.

These are all myths of course. But, that is what a lot of people
south of the border and in the rest of the world think.
Here is a story that will change your mind about us

Ok, I will spell it out:
Any one reporting an event will do it right in reporting the event without adding
irrelevant, personal, un-substantiate comments to the report and above all make
no allegation or suggestion that may bias the viewer or reader.

I do not stand the freedom AC016 takes with the freedom we were granted!
I do not know his name nor face, since today, his location is back in his profile…
I thought he was from western Canada as I mentioned to one of the many PM &
P@ I exchanged since the beginning of that thread. One of the first question to
myself was: "…and how old is that guy?"

This entry to any post about Australia, Japan, or else, would have brought up
the same reaction.

This reply cost me all my spare change in diplomacy and tact.

Sorry if I appeared as trouble maker but I sincerely believe that there are elegant,
professional, and adequate ways to do things right!

AC - I think the "Canadian myth" you refer to was dispelled for many Americans a few years ago by Michael Moore's "Bowling for Columbine" in which he points out the Canadians have as many, if not more, guns that Americans have but yet have a mere fraction of the gun related deaths.

Nevertheless, I do not see a problem with this topic nor the way people have responded. This is a touchy subject and is being discussed very reasonably here.

@Kodiac - It seems you are taking offense with the addition of AC's opinion on the subject, not so much the subject itself. But the "off topic" section of this forum is designed for people to discuss and opine on subjects non-photo related. This thread seems to fit well within this definition.

Very true. Excellent movie. I am also happy that this has turned out to be a civil discussion ;)

Thank you for your explanation and I respect it. I put my location back on because one member had asked where I was from and I remembered I did not have a location visible. How old am I? Well, I don't see the relevance of my age to what I posted. I am not a professional reporter and don't attempt to be. As always, I was simply sharing an article and my own personal opinion with the community. Sorry that I did not live up to your standards. keep up the good work with your photography :)

OK guys, I am giving you one more chance. Most of the people here are playing very nicely with each other but it only takes one to ruin a great discussion. We will have no name calling or calling someone immature just because their views are different.

So far we have established that 99.9% of all Canadians are nice.
All Americans own guns and carry them with them always.
Some people are just plain crazy no matter where they are from.

Now Play nicely or take your toys and go home.
