    Jake's Backdoor Hippie-palooza, 2014 Edition

D7100 showed up at lunch today. I'd forgotten the added bonus the DX reach plus 24MP resolution would give me on macro photography. Help meeeeeee!!!!!

    Jake's Backdoor Hippie-palooza, 2014 Edition

Been busy getting a website finished and domains moved to a new hosting company, so not a lot of time to edit. Here's one from a couple weeks ago...

    Post-Like Image Resize

After hitting Like on a thread it seems to override the poster's image display size and reload the thread with the default attachment size. This is in addition to occasionally jumping to the bottom of the thread, or back to the first thread I "Like" when I choose to do multiples in a visit.

Lightroom 5.5 stripping exposure compensation on import of RAW files

I'm noticing something very weird in the latest version of LR. I was shooting some birds remotely yesterday, and I had the camera set in Manual mode, with Auto ISO to allow for the specific shutter speed and aperture. The nest that I was shooting was in the shadows, so I set exposure...

    Some Commercial Architectural shots

My only (hopefully) constructive comment, Rick, is that while the HDR brings out fantastic details in the buildings, I find the skies to be way too over-structured. Same with the roads. The colors, and reds in particular, are a little too flat. Without having seen the actual buildings I...

curious on this technique by mike kelley

Basically the same thing I did with this shot. 6 frames, 3 of the birds, 3 of me, all taken with a single camera on a tripod triggered remotely. Pull them into Photoshop as separate layers, mask out all but the bottom layer and then use the masks to paint in what's missing - either with...

    Jake's Backdoor Hippie-palooza, 2014 Edition

These were not profile corrected. I almost always use it, but rarely with the fisheye. Here's the fountain perspective (unedited) with the profile correction applied... It essentially turns it into a 15mm lens, but stretches and severely distorts the corners, losing a lot of resolution...

That One Phone Call You Never Want To Get

Last things first, yes I did RMA the card. They have it and I'm just waiting for them to verify that it's a failed card and not "abused". I was getting all the information from my nephew on a bad cell connection, and he was getting it from his Mom (my sister in-law). From what I understand...

That One Phone Call You Never Want To Get

Just heard from my nephew. I have refrained from talking much about what I witnessed at his wedding (I may have shared one or two anecdotes), but let's just say that I wasn't very impressed with the family friend with a photography business they hired to do the shooting. My brother in-law...

Updates to LR (5.5) and CS6 / CC

Just got an update from Adobe for Creative Cloud. Lightroom version 5.5 and a new version of Photoshop. I think it's nice that they've been updating things, but here's a little rant. What I got this morning is now called Photoshop CC 2014. It seems to have supplanted Photoshop CC, but I...

    Jake's Backdoor Hippie-palooza, 2014 Edition

And a couple more for you... For the bottom one I pulled out the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 that I've had for sale for about a year and a half. Sort of glad I never got rid of it. I've got 3 FX lenses in that range, but heck, I'm not going to give them away, which is what I seem to have to do...

    So, I got a printer....

@hark, are you printing from Lightroom or Photoshop? When you do, do you allow the software to manage color or the printer? If you're allowing the software to manage the color (you should) and are selecting the proper paper profile for the printer (you should) then it should be pretty close...

    Jake's Backdoor Hippie-palooza, 2014 Edition

And for anyone who has ever wondered, "Can I overlay an Infrared photo taken by a D7000 with an 18-105mm lens with a normal one taken by a D800 with a 24-120mm f/4?", the answer is, "Yes, if you have infinite patience."

    Jake's Backdoor Hippie-palooza, 2014 Edition

Once again, I've been slow in getting photos up here. I've got 4, but I'll spread 'em out over a couple days. LOL Almost the same shot. Which one do you like better?

A little play on a Mondrian theme that I was intending for a photo challenge on another site until I was informed that it would be disqualified for the edits. Who cares, I still like it.

    Grainy Skyline... Help Please!

I'm in the process of putting together a quick How To video on noise reduction for you and will upload it when it's done. Here's what I was able to do with one of the jpegs you have posted. Did you shoot RAW or JPEG? It's never a good idea to shoot JPEG with high ISO (or at almost any...
