    Jake's Backdoor Hippie-palooza, 2014 Edition

Hickory Tussock Moth Caterpillar. These guys have a nasty venom that they secrete on their barbs. It'll cause anything from a mild burn to a major rash and severe allergic reactions. RIP, little caterpillar, my wife wasn't cottoning to keeping you around. Looks a bit like an Indian Totem Pole.

A few more from the horse show. These are my friend's sister, and her faithful Bernese Mountain Dog, Bubbles. I figured @wud can't be the only one putting dogs up. LOL

    D600 shutter replacement news

Re: All D600s can get free shutter service Nikon should have sent you an email with a link to print the return label, and the tracking number will be on there. @hark, UPS doesn't "work" Saturday, so ship date is actually Monday, and I suspect the far reaches of NY state are 2 zones from Long...

Some Street Photography at Easton Farmer's Market

I could do that, but to do it properly would involve a series of edits with masks, one that includes everything but the skin and then the inverse, with each mask being subject to a different color filter. I could also go back and alter the color of the skin afterwards, but it's not so much the...

    Jake's Backdoor Hippie-palooza, 2014 Edition

Was asked yesterday to help out a friend who owns a craft beer bar and liquor store. She's a "horsie" and was helping the US Equestrian Team by sellingbeer as a fund raiser at one of their events, and given that I seem to know beer and have no problem pouring it for people she asked me if I'd...

Some Street Photography at Easton Farmer's Market

@hark, the thing that these have in common with a lot of HDR photography is the emphasis on texture and structure. High Dynamic Range, in and of itself, isn't really about that, it's about the maximizing of visible light so that you see everything that's there (something your brain does...

I figure there's no reason to start a second thread, so as I continue to visit I'll add to this thread. Apparently bouquets were in order this week.

Adobe Camera RAW 8.6 and the D810 NEF files

FYI, just read this piece comparing the ISO noise between the D810 and D800e and the first thing it mentions is that the ACR 8.6 Release Candidate is just that - a "candidate". In other words, it's a beta release that supposedly handles the D810, but it apparently does a rather poor job of it...

    Jake's Backdoor Hippie-palooza, 2014 Edition

Not HDR by any stretch. Just playing with blend modes again. Here's the original... And here's a mess I created in B&W that eventually got blended back in (with the original crop)...

    Poor quality images

And, btw, if you're going to shoot real estate, learn how to balance your whites properly and use perspective correction. And if you'll look at the left wall you'll see some JPEG coloring artifacts. While this is not typical moire this may be an issue for you when shooting with a camera...

What's up with the Activity Award?!

I just got a notification that "1 Award was Issued/Removed". It seems that I "returned the Activity Award" this morning - whilst sleeping. OK. Not that I care, but then I noticed that mikew has returned it several times over the past week, while earning it once or twice. Others have returned...

    Jake's Backdoor Hippie-palooza, 2014 Edition

Thrift shop still life. Had a lot of fun with this one. Started out as something very different, shot in a cramped space. Lots of perspective and lighting corrections. Here's the untouched RAW.

    Pretzel's Snack-A-Day (365 for 2014)

Before seeing the second I was going to ask, "Why the blur?" Then I saw the second and thought, oh, that's why. For me, the best shot is between the two - or actually a combination of them. Blur filters will obscure the details, and I like the definition of stitching. Take the clean shot and...

Using Adobe Camera RAW to Enlarge Cropped RAW Files

I shoot a lot of wildlife, and as such I've learned that you can only get so close, and more times than not you're going to need to crop your image to get your subject. For digital image sharing that's usually not a problem since sharing is usually done at 1000-1600px on the long side, and with...
