looking to try FX , but which body

I took two photos of my Aussie. One was with DX at 18mm and the other was FX with 27mm (18mm is my widest so I chose its comparable FX counterpart). I stood in the same place and was close enough to cause distortion in both. Both photos are cropped of her head. Can you see a difference in that...

    Calibration trouble

Last year when I first calibrated this LCD monitor with my Spyder 4 Pro, the calibration was perfect. Everything I printed looked as it did on my monitor plus when I used Nations for printing, everything printed just as it did with my own printer. The problem started when I didn't recalibrate...

    Do you hear VR motor?

I have a few lenses with VR (or OS in the case of Sigma). When you engage the VR and press the shutter release halfway to focus, do you hear the VR motor running constantly? Most of my lenses will make a noise as the VR (or OS) engages and when it releases, but I've never heard it between the...

    Re-considering the 70-300 f/4.5 IF-ED-VR

I purchased this lens based on Moose Peterson's video--I've never regretted the purchase and find the lens to work extremely well. As you noted, the lens can be a little soft at the 300mm end, but overall it is impressive! Nikon?s Best Kept Secret | Moose Peterson's Website Here is a photo...

    Young Fisherman

I used the healing brush and the spot healing brush in PSE10 to remove the background people and the white stripe at the top. I didn't apply any crop though. I do like some of the edits other members have done, too, so you need to decide which one works best for you.

Constructive criticism please -- drama production photos

These are a few of the theater photos I took during the past week. They are edited in PSE10. Lightroom 4 won't read D610 NEF files without converting to DNG so it was a time constraint to get these edited quickly for display in the lobby. Someone was going to print these as either 4x6 or 5x7...

Mystery Duck - anyone know what this is?

I saw a young one that was accompanied by a male and female mallard. I think forum member @Alan also has a few photographs of these types of ducks, too. Nice photo, Dave! :)

DxO Mark scores D600 vs D610

The rented Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 was awesome! The down side is that they used at least 4 spotlights so the stage was lit pretty well (which is not the norm). That means I couldn't isolate whether low light conditions are a factor with the D610. Oh well. The lens was superb. :) And since there was...

DxO Mark scores D600 vs D610

So far my initial impression is that this Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 vrii lens is awesome!!! :D Here is Abigal. She just ate--I should have washed off her face first! Normally I wouldn't handhold such a long lens as this especially with the tendonitis in my forearms, but the VRii worked perfectly...

DxO Mark scores D600 vs D610

I was comparing Nikon's 70-200mm f/2.8 vrii with Sigma's 70-200mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM lens on a D610. When I checked out the results of the Nikon lens on a D600, the overall score increased from 27 (D600) to 28 (D610). Why would it be different if nothing pertinent was changed in the D610? Scroll...

Which edit do you guys like better?

I was wondering the same thing. Here is an edit with the branches blurred slightly to add separation, but if you had the opportunity to reshoot it standing a little more to your left, you might be able to isolate it a lot better. And here is a tiny bit more blur to the branches.

    ND Filter for Nikon D5200

If you can justify the extra cost of buying a 6 stop ND filter rather than a 3 stop, the benefit of obtaining even slower shutter speeds will be advantageous. Again, it depends upon the diameter of the ones lens I questioned. On the front of that '33mm' lens should be a number. Here is what you...

New Nikon D610. Is this amount of sensor dirt normal?

Glad to hear this has been resolved! As Backdoor Hippie mentioned above, be sure you place your camera's body cap and the rear lens cap together so their backs aren't exposed to any possible dust/lint from inside your camera bag. I go an extra step further...after coupling them together, I put...

    Username Legend

I think Marilynne has it, but when jdeg was explaining how the paid membership would work, one of the things was to colorize your user name. I think someone asked about it before the forum change, but I don't think it was readily available for everyone. However, I could be wrong.... @jdeg, can...

    Subscribed Thread problem again?

There seems to be a problem with getting email notifications of subscribed threads. Either the emails are hours and hours late while on other threads there isn't any notification at all. Has anyone else noticed this within the past few days?

    New Nikon Announcement for D600???

This link just showed up in my Facebook news feed. It says if the dust issues aren't resolved, they will replace the D600 with a different camera. Quote from the link below: With regard to the issue with which multiple granular black spots are reflected in images captured with the D600...

    Consistent ongoing underexposure

jrleo33, first--please consider going back to post 19 (or thereabout) to edit something you wrote. In your initial post, you mentioned having problems with underexposure then around reply 19 you said it was overexposure. Okay...now to the nitty-gritty. ::what:: I don't know if this info will...

    B&H Has LR5 at $69 with promo code, D7100 w 18-140mm bundle for $1296

I bought the Hoya ND400 (9-stop neutral density filter) that @BackdoorHippie mentioned earlier in this thread--it's back to the regular price now, but for $49 I didn't want to pass it up. It hasn't arrived yet because I only ordered it a few days ago. Fortunately I ordered it before the sale...
