    Post your birds (2)

Okay this Tom was just crossing the road. I got out of the car, boosted the ISO so I would have a high shutter speed to hand hold a 300mm F/4.5 AIS manual lens (D7K) and took maybe 4 or 5 shots of him. Now I did photoshopped three of the images on layers with a mask on each layer and brushed in...

    35mm film pics

Here are some film scans taken with a Topcon Uni I got at the PX in 1967. Some street scenes in Nhatrang Vietnam. Probably my first Photowalk just learning how to use the camera! Lou Cioccio

How will D500 do Commander Mode with no built-in flash?

This was what I was referring to using the IR pulses from the flash to trigger a remote flash. Here is the image taken with non-nikon camera that is using the similar CLS that Nikon uses. Look at his glasses you can just see where the strobe flashes; its on a light stand with an white umbrella...

No shortage of secondhand 300 f4s

Here is one with a 300mm F/4,5 ED AIS manual lens and sometimes these are less expensive and they slow you down you have to manually focus and it does confirm. I forgot to switch the non-cpu lens in the menu from my 43-86 to the 300mm but I think every thing else is okay. I was using a tripod...

    f2.8 or f4 for portraits?

Here is one with the Tamron, I used a flash mounted in an umbrella on a light stand with 30% flash to the ambient light. If the exif is there its at F/3.5 to allow enough DOF for the grand daughter in sharp focus. As you can see the limb behind is OOF. Lou Cioccio PS Yes I do have a 1.8/85mm...

    Post your Portrait shots!

Make it fun then you can get the model to co-operate and now the grand daughter is a tree climber! Used a flash and umbrella at camera right, Sekonic Flash meter to get 30% flash contribution to the ambient light. Sky was bright with clouds going in front of the sun so light was constantly...

I (Re) Joined The Medium Format Club Today

I did not get the Bronica SQ but went for the Bronica ETRS. The only 35mm film camera I kept was the Nikon FM; when I went digital, but I did have a refrigerator full of 15 rolls of film (5-color and 10 b&w 120 rolls) I figured a budget of 400$ and look around. I ended up with 1-ETRS, 75mm MC...

Hey any Old school film shooters in the house?

I used a Nikon (Vivitar compatible flash) with a Bronica ETRS and got something I had not seen film days which was Ghosting! Here are two images. We had set up a "photo booth" to post on face book and my niece was running that station. I went around shooting both D7K and Bronica ETRS. The one...

Hey any Old school film shooters in the house?

Although I still have my Nikon FM I did pick up this month a Bronica ETRS, 75mm F/2.8 and a 150mm F/3.5. I had some old 120 Film Portra Color and B&W (C41). A friend of mine who retired gave me some of his stash but I kept it refrigerated. So I shot some the other day. The flower shot is with a...

    Still practicing this flash stuff

What cwgrizz said is very good; in fact a lot of Joe Brady is very informative. Here is a shot of one of our club members. To his right is a large Appolo Softbox with a ½ Power strobe (Olympus FL-50) which is pointed back to the reflector surface. At his left is a 32 inch white circular...

    Post your Portrait shots!

You would just need crop down from the top of the head, just a tad tighter. Although I did not crop I did adjust the levels. See the screen shot. I just had to move the slider over to brighten his face. Not sure if you use Elements or full version photoshop. Lou Cioccio

    Post your Portrait shots!

Here are two crops of the same image one with negative space and one at a tight crop. The tight one is the one I liked. I also did the cropping in Affinity and the crop tool is slightly different in what you expect in Photoshop but you get the hang of it. I am really pleased with this lens...

    Post your Portrait shots!

Same candid "portrait" but I decided not to use any Adobe products and to see how the workflow ended up. I have been playing around with several Mac OS X "photoshop" type of apps. After using PS4 through CS5 and teaching classes on Elements this has been a learning experience. The setup is the...

    How to light a church

Re: How to light a church? adding more textOkay here are two images one in a gym and the other in church. These are before I bought big strobes (AC/DC Flashpoints 620); I am using two umbrellas to spread the light and two Olympus FL50 in "manual power mode" probably ½ power each. Both are on 8...
