I've become a bit better using my photo software (Corel PaintShop Pro X9). It's an old package, but I'm old too and would probably struggle learning something newer.

From the mid-1970s at Barrington, Illinois (USA) is an interlocking tower (known as a signal box across the pond) and its levers inside. Both are gone today. These were known as "armstrong" machines because they required strong arms to move the levers which mechanically moved long lengths of...

From the summer of 1975 at North Western Station in Chicago. Same Nikkormat FTn, Plus-X film and basement darkroom processing. I didn't have a tripod for a time exposure, so braced the camera against a post, chose an aperture near f/16 and carefully squeezed off a few shots at 1/30 and maybe...

There was a fan nearby who'd also set up for a shot of the special locomotive and he had a Nikon D90. With his D90 and my D5100, two old DX Nikons were on station, still cranking out images. (y)

At the top it reads GRIT HEART DRIVE and below it reads Moving The Weight Of The World. It was painted by the NS shop in Altoona, PA. He was moving at a pretty good clip (chose 1/640), so a side shot was difficult. Maybe someday I can catch it at rest with a roster shot.

As a substitute, she spotted this tent accessory at the Dealer that would fit both our VWs. I dunno though. At our ages, this might not be quite the great idea. ;)

My wife would love to get a vintage "Westy" for camping, old skool and just perfect. Unfortunately we have no place to park one and too many other hobbies compete for our time. [Maggie Valley NC, September 2020, D5100]

The EPA rating is 234 Miles (at 70 mph using 95 percent of a full charge), but two publications rated its useful range at 190, which I assume figures that few owners will want to risk discharging the battery to 5%. Charging from 5% to 80% takes 33 minutes at a "fast" charger and 49 minutes to...

Only 190 Miles from what I read and more than a few Dealers are trying to extract pricing far above MSRP from eager buyers. Europe is also offered a shorter two-row version which is not available in the North American market.

Volkswagen's ID.Buzz EV Van is beginning to arrive at U.S. Dealers. We were at our Dealer having my wife's '17 Golf 5-Speed serviced and the Service Manager invited us back for a sneak peak before they hit the showroom. We love the cheerful two-tone colors that harken back to storied VW vans...

The Illinois Central's passenger trains were painted in a beautiful chocolate and orange scheme, but as the years wore on, the IC fell upon hard times. It was to merge with the Gulf, Mobile & Ohio RR, change its name to the Illinois Central Gulf RR and sell of many of its secondary lines. What...
