    Post your Train shots!

There's the Heritage Units website which can be helpful and social media too. Catching these can be quite a challenge because they most often circulate just like any other locomotive without special recognition and they may not be leading the train they're on. Then too, it may be dark when...

    Post your Train shots!

Some 12 years ago, Norfolk Southern decided to celebrate its 30th Anniversary by painting twenty new locomotives in historic paint schemes that replicated the many old railroads which comprise the modern Norfolk Southern. Last week I caught up with their Jersey Central locomotive, painted in...

    Brightness of the Display (D5000)

The suggestion should work. The D5100 (which I use) definitely offers a screen brightness adjustment and Ken Rockwell's D5000 website User's Guide confirms it for the D5000. For the adjustment to take effect you must remember to hit OK after making the change. If you lack an owner's manual...

    Nikon Self Service Repair

No way. One of my brothers was a camera repair tech for Minolta long ago. He had a knack for it and did excellent work. Looking over his shoulder as he worked, I was amazed at the tiny parts he was able to handle with such ease.

    Needa's Abysmal Attempts!

I don't know anything about Iguanas, so read up to find that they're not native to Florida and are an expanding nuisance.

Subject is too dark. Used Nikon D3200

I agree with @Needa and @BF Hammer -- you'll be pleased I think. I've been shooting with a D5100 for over 12 years and it's been great. Your D5300 has better resolution, an expanded ISO range, a better processor, triple the number of focus points, a better screen, a faster fps rate, GPS plus...

D5500 stuck in Live View Mode - possible broken LV switch (HELP)

You might try a factory reset using your menu. I don't know much of anything about it, but I recall too that some Nikon models have had their mirrors stick in the up position.

    Mastering Nikon Photography

Nikon has an on line school that might be of help, but if you are interested in the basics, there are many alternatives depending on what you prefer. I find that books suit me best for learning, as they're easy on my aging eyes, and I can read and re-read at my own pace while having my camera...

    Post your Train shots!

Two photos from the foot of the Saluda Grade at Melrose, NC that illustrate the sad outcome of 35 years of decline in western North Carolina railroading. I shot the first on 12/22/1984 and the other at nearly the same spot on 08/14/2019. Saluda was the steepest mainline railroad grade in the...

    Post your Train shots!

Caught Norfolk Southern's Office Car Special this afternoon at Blythewood, SC en route to the Master's Tournament in Augusta, GA. The train originated in Altoona, PA yesterday morning. Most of the large railroads bring trains to the event. The locomotives are two of NS's "Heritage Fleet" of...

    Post Your Automotive Shots!

Such a neat engine arrangement. Looks like the cylinders and all are right up front in the breeze. Really interesting; I've never seen anything like it. :)
