    Lizard Pixels

I've been waiting to catch this green lizard on a white wall. Finally caught him with my 105mm with a 12mm extension tube. His back reminds me of a sensor with photosites. Looks like he has a few busted pixels. :D BM7_0158 by BMalinis, on Flickr BM7_0157 by BMalinis, on Flickr...

Picked up my new D7100 today

While I'm waiting for my other body to get back from Nikon I decided to pick up a D7100 for a backup. So far I like how it handles. Here are a couple of shots I took with my 105mm with 32mm of extension tubes. I'm sure the results could be much better if the guy holding the camera knew what...

I sent my D600 in for dust and oil. I'm hope they have a handle on this issue

Around 9,000 actuations I really didn't see anything worth note about dust/oil spots. I had done 2 wet cleanings to that point. So basically I never paid much attention to it until about 15,000 shots and I did a spot pic and was amazed by all the spots. So I called Nikon, sent in a pic and...

    Petzval 85mm lens for DSLR

This looks like an interesting kickstarter project. It looks like it has plenty of funding. I might have funded $300 for the lens if there were any spots available. I think that would have been worth it for an 85mm f2.2 lens designed after the old time Petzval lens. The link has some...

Nice little LCD cover for the D600

I just got this LCD cover in the mail and so far I'm impressed with it: Flashpoint Optical Glass 6 Layer LCD Screen Protector for Nikon D600 846431079389 1. It's $3.00 cheaper than the stock Nikon LCD cover. 2. The way it's designed it covers the LCD, the viewfinder and has an LCD top cover as...

How about posting your HDR images?

With Photomatix I can tell it's easy to push your HDR's overboard. But playing around with it is still fun regardless of the effects one produces. I personally struggle with going overboard but eventually I'll get the hang of it.

    What are your bird settings?

I was wondering what other D600 users were using for bird shots. I'd like to get feedback from other bird photographers to see if my settings could improve my end results. For birds I'm using a Sigma 150-500 5-6.3 OS lens. I have a user setting stored to: F8 AF-C WB-Auto Center weighted...

    Shooting Christmas Lights?

I wouldn't qualify as expert advice but I will give you some ideas as to how I shot outdoor lights. I used ISO 800 with a 16-35 and 50mm lens while in A mode around f/7-f/13 range. I used a tripod and shutter release. I shot right at dusk for a better sky plus it helps with the exposure IMO...

in search of a good wildlife lens

Just got my Sigma 150-500mm. I took a few pictures in the backyard to get a feel for it. The jury is still out but I will know more as I get to use it. My first impression is nice build quality. I wish the manual focus ring was a little further down the barrell. It's heavy at 4lbs 4.6oz...

    Are you into WWII warbirds

I just stepped out into my backyard today to test a UV filter I attached on my 70-300 lens. I heard an uncommon low drone engine coming in and pointed up at the sky and look what I saw. I was surprised to see a bomber plane flying around my neighborhood. It was cool seeing the gun turret on...

What data cards are you using?

I'm using my D7000 SD cards with my new D600 and I think I'm running into data write bottlenecks. It makes sense since the file formats are larger coming from the D600. The cards are slow by most standards but seemed to work okay with the D7000. They are Sandisk Ultra 32GB at 15mb/s. I'm...

    small disappointment

I'm still working my way around the D600. I'm pretty impressed with what I've worked with so far. But one thing I have to admit I'm a bit disapointed in is the small selector switch/dial. For a camera that is taken from the D7000 (my old camera) and is actually bigger than the D7000, having a...

Which book are you waiting for?

After buying my D7000 I purchased 2 books. One of which was the very helpful Mastering the Nikon D7000 by Darrell Young. Now that I have my D600 I'm not seeing a huge selection for it yet. So what title/author are you waiting for? Or are you even getting a book?

    LCD's measurements favor

I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a D600 but I'd like to get skins to cover the top and back LCD. Since they don't make them for the D600 yet I was going to try D800 skins. Could someone with a D600 possibly measure their top and rear LCD sizes for me? I greatly appreciate any help...

    Is anyone pre-ordering D600?

I got my email from Adorama about pre-ordering and it made me wonder if anyone here was going to pre-order theirs? I fit into the category of a DX user that would like to try an FX camera. I'm very satisfied with my D7000 so I'm not in a rush to move to the D600. But I might try to pre-order...
