I've done 2 lenses so far and I've fine tuned both. I certainly don't think it hurts to fine tune your lens but I wonder JUST how much it improves IQ. I'm sure it helps, but to what degree I'm not sure. Either way, I bought it so I'm going to use it. But I don't think people should be...
I FINALLY got around to setting up and playing around with the Reikan FoCal program. I tested my 50mm on my D600 and D7100 and came away with some interesting results for aperture sharpness, fine tuning, etc. But since I own a D600 the Dust Analysis in FoCal was another reason I bought the...
The First Snow thread got me thinking about cold weather and snow in general. I'm going to plan a mult-day hike with my camera gear and I hope to get out in the snow. Being from Florida I don't have any experience with snow.
Any tips or tricks of the trade dealing with cold weather and snow...
I'm curious to know what moth this is, if anyone knows just blurt it out. This guy let me move him with a stick off the wall and onto these flowers.

I think this is really testing my ADHD not my color acuity... haha. 26 isn't great compared to you fine gents and ladies but I'm okay with the results.
This guy was a very cooperative subject. If I got too close he'd fly away then land nearby for the next photo.

I sold my D7000 earlier this year but recently found a LCD cover (BM-11). If anyone wants it just PM me your address and I'll drop it in an envelope. No charge. If I don't hear from anyone in a few days I'm going to toss it.
I picked up a Pelican 1510 with dividers and lid organizer. It unfortunately will not fit all my gear but I really wanted something that I could carry-on for flying. Nice little case for sure. The extending handle is a little flimsy for my taste but oh well.
Downtown Jacksonville on the riverwalk I caught this guy with my Sigma 150-500mm. I don't think I've ever seen a blue bee before.

The pro version also has this dust analysis thing where it hilights the dust on your sensor and tells you what aperture that dust will start showing up. That's pretty handy. I wasn't planning on dropping a hundred bucks this morning... thanks a lot Jake. ;)
I had about an hour this morning to kill so I decided to do an impromptu high ISO test comparing the d600 and d7100. I wanted to make constant as many variables as possible. I shot from one room into my kitchen with the same lens, focal point, aperture, metering and focal length. I shot from...
Just curious if anyone here subscribes (or regularly picks up) any type of photo magazine. If so which ones and do you get paper or electronic version?
I currently do not, but wouldn't mind and it makes a great gift idea. ;)
Dave_w suggested my previous scorpion pic was from Area 51. When I took this one this morning I thought the same thing.

Lookee what I found in our tub. Second time at this cabin and second time we find a scorpion in the tub. This one appears to be snacking on another one. Either that or he's growing a tail out of his face.

Caught this guy this morning. The interesting one is the eye. If you look at the water drops you can see a magnification of the compound structure inside the eye.

I finally got out this morning to take some bird shots with my 150-500mm Sigma lens on my new D7100. Typically the way I set it up is to Auto ISO up to 3200 in order to keep the shutter speed quick (around 1/800). As I understand it my D600 should perform better at the higher ISOs and that at...
I just remembered there was a Macro thread so I decided to drop these pictures here as well (had them over in the d7100 section). I've been using a 105mm f2.8G lens with various combinations of Kenko extension tubes. For lighting I sometimes use a speedlight 910 with a soft box diffuser angled...
Well I tried to keep the animal/camera title threads going but I couldn't think of anything for this little arachnid. All I could think of was the happy face on his back shell.
Talk about frustrating. Trying to focus a 105mm with 48mm of extension while this web is waving in the wind. My...
Shot a small frog in my backyard last night. His eye looks to be at aperture f5.6.
