    Lens evaluation

Hi, I am about 80% deciding to acquire a new Rokinon 12mm f2.8 fisheye (FF) for my D3500. I have two of them on hand (can return one or both) to evaluate and compare with my kit lens (18-55mm f3.5) for the final pick or dump. First, I like to see how sharp they can focus comparing with each...

Thanks, Jake. I know light pollution in the city can kill much of your sighting and imaging at nature objects. That's one point of impossible mission to overcome in this environment, I guess. Here is the PP image (Darktable) from RAW: (not much better... )

Hi, I scrapped a camping trip to Joshua Tree NP for this year's last chance of shooting the MW photos due to the pandemic and the wildfire disaster. But still can't stop taking the MW shots... So I checked up PhotoPills and Stellarium and saw the image at my place at a time within a narrower...

    Help! New lens incompatible

Thanks for so many responses. I tried M mode with Live View (set to f22 on lens aperture ring); can't adjust aperture on either D3500 body or lens aperture ring (info show closed aperture with no f number); but no err message of "incompatible lens"; focus and shoot -- it fires! for outside far...

    Help! New lens incompatible

Hi, My new Rokinon 12mm f2.8 fisheye lens has arrived... visual inspection is ok, but after installing on D3500, set Aperture ring to f22 and turn on my camera to set aperture: all I see in the info panel shows "closed" aperture, no way to set or change f numbers, and there is the warning...

    Q's about Rokinon 12mm f2.8 fisheye lens

Thanks, Sparky. 1. I entered 12mm (real) and 18mm (35mm equivalent) in the calculater and it came out the same hyperfocal distance: 2.61m. So this one resolved. 2. So how do I set aperture for my shot? Just set it from D3500 and forget about the aperture adj ring on the lens? 3. How do you...

    Q's about Rokinon 12mm f2.8 fisheye lens

Have ordered this lens (Rokinon 12mm f2.8 fisheye lens, FF) from AMZ (on sale - 20% off on Prime Day). I'll use it with D3500. Before arriving, need helps to clear some potential obstacles when starting using it: 1. What is the correct focal length to calculate hyperfocal distance I should use...

Puzzled by the strange image in my moon photo

Thanks, Rob, Fred, and Cindy. I did process the original jpg in Nik's HDR Efex. I shot in both RAW and jpg. The one I posted is single jpg image processed. Now I think Fred is probably right about the exposure effect cause Nik HDR takes the original image to render other exposure versions...

Puzzled by the strange image in my moon photo

Hi, Made a shot of the bloody fire moon in the smoky sky in NorCal. It turned out there came some strange pattern or image around the moon covering almost the entire background. The moon itself is not affected. Put the original size copy on dropbox...
