More of a cityscape than a landscape - Gateway Arch shot from across the Mississippi River in East St. Louis this Spring. Finally got around to Photoshopping out a bunch of power lines that ran horizontally through the middle of the photo. D600 w/ 24-70 ISO 100, f/14, 15 seconds

Had my garage queen in the driveway, waiting on my wife and grabbed a few pics. D600 w/ 24-70 ISO 320, f/9, 1/125 SS, SB-800 through umbrella @ full power to left of camera.

Don't know if b/w does anything for this shot, unless it neutralizes what might be a distracting colorful background. Two suggestions - you might try panning to show some motion and also leave some space for the subject to move into. Here's an example using a car instead of a boat.

Leading lines should lead you toward the subject. Your leading lines lead you out of the photo. I flipped your pic so you are lead from left to right into the subject.

I also use the Manfrotto adapter with Giotto Mini Ballheads & the SB-800's stands for my umbrellas. Using the ballhead allows me more flexibility in positioning the flash with regard to my camera if I'm using the SU-800 (IR) for wireless triggering of the flashes. About $50 for the pair. A...

The Golfing Gent. Clowning around at a studio with a bunch of camera guys. We were our own models. It was not pretty. SOOC.

Here's a shot with the 17-55 @17mm in NON-DX mode on my D600. Full 24mp but heavy vignetting. Switch to DX mode and you get a 10mp camera.

Here's one I did recently in my music/photo "studio". Captured against a black background with 24-70 2.8 @ 70mm, ISO 100, f10, 1/200 with 2 off camera SB-800s shot through umbrellas. Mods in Lightroom 4 and CS6.

I like the Gary Fong collapsable Lightsphere. Great for soft, disperse light. Here's a shot from my wife's bar, which is very dimly lit.

We have lots of birds in our backyard. At first, I thought this was a hummingbird, because its wings were flapping fast and it was darting around from flower to flower. But, I've never seen anything like this before. Crappy cropped shots with 70-200 VRII. WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?

On the senior shot, maybe crop out everything except the mirrored reflection.
