I get kind of artsy in the bar

A couple of St. Patrick's Day marketing shots (facebook) for my wife's bar. And yes, it's better to take pics prior to product sampling.

    Gary Fong Collapsible Snoot

I got tired of using a Pringles can as a snoot and ordered the GF collapsible speed snoot. It joins his Lightsphere and Puffer in my kit.

Post Your Black and Whites Photos!!

Saw this in a Gavin Hoey video and thought I'd give it a go. Selfie silhouette shot with D600, 24-70 2.8, 1/200 sec, ISO 100, f/11, SB-800 at 1/8 power.

Indoor portraits set up essential kit idea

Agree with FastGlass. I like to play around with portraits and use 3 SB-800s with umbrellas, softboxes, snoots, gels, etc. to get different effects. Since I can't lure modes into my studio, I'm doing sefies to fine tune my lighting skills. These are all 3 flash shots, triggered by an SU-800...

Be Sure to Stop When Flashing

If this is the start of a RR crossing thread, here's my contribution. Clowning around with my new 85 1.8G.

    Acceptable RAW ISO noise range?

I have no problem taking my D600 up to 6400. Here's a shot from last year of Chuck Berry in a small local venue, shot with an 80-200 2.8, wide open at 1/200 sec.

    It's a gas

St. Louis Region of the Porsche Club of America held a brake bleeding tech session at a local vendor's shop where he was kind enough to fill our tires with nitrogen. With all those hoses, looks like my car's on life support!

    New 85 1.8G

Took advantage of Nikon's lens rebate to add the 85 1.8G to my kit. Here's a 3 light (SB-800s) selfie - D600, ISO 100, f/5.6, 1/125 sec. Main light 1/4 power, fill & back light 1/8 power. SOOC - I'm a bit too far to the left of the frame, but was just goofing around. Next time, I'll comb my...

    Pets/"Petography" Thread!

Took advantage of Nikon's lens rebate to add the 85 1.8G to my kit. It arrived this afternoon. Here's the first shot, featuring Ginger at her picture window at dusk. D600, f/1.8, ISO 5000, 1/100 sec. Slight NR in LR4.

Tokina ATX 2,8/100 Pro D Macro AF - Anyone???

I've had it for a few years and like it.Most of my use is manual macro, including some hand held. You don't get VR, but for half the price of the Nikon, I don't think you sacrifice IQ or build quality (BQ?). Here's a crop from a shot in early 2013 on my D7000. And here's one SOOC from the...

    Post Your Bridges HERE

We opened a new bridge across the Mississippi today and we had a chance to walk across it yesterday. Despite extreme cold weather, many showed up. Nicknamed the Stan Span, it's named after Stan Musial, baseball great of the St. Louis Cardinals who passed away last year at the age of 92.

    Nikkor 70-200 f/2.8

I had the 80-200 D ED (2 ring) for a few years prior to getting the 70-200. I didn't do any side by side comparos, but the big difference I notice is focus speed and (when I need it) VR. I was content with the 80-200, but stole the 70-200 off Craigslist for $1400 in mind condition. 80-200...
