Has anyone tried a AmazonBasics Tripod?

Try getting a $40 tripod to do this....... Boils down to you get what you pay for and not everyone needs the same functionality. Those of us who shoot macro need more than a cheap tripod to do it right. btw, that's a D7000 and a small-assed 2.8 lens attached to the tripod. :)

First macro shot of the Spring

Joined a group of photogs at the Missouri Botanical Garden this morning and got down low for some macro shots. After some heavy cropping/rotating, I liked this one the best. D7000, Tokina 100 2.8 @ f/11, ISO 200, 1/50 sec

    Tokina 100 f2.8

Had mine for almost 2 years and like it. Built like a tank. Like the push/pull auto/manual selector. I use it primarily for macro, so I manually focus. Here's a hand held shot from a while back D7000, f/9.5, 1/60, ISO 720

    Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse tonight

I shot the Super Moon with my D7000 and 70-300 @300, ISO 100, f/16 and 1/20 sec, spot metering in June of last year. Rather than getting up in the middle of the night, I'm thinking about coloring this one red.

    Motorsport

Nice. With cars in motion, like birds in flight, you want to give the car room to drive into. Try to allow more room in front of the car than behind it. I shoot several Porsche events yearly and find that 1/100 to 1/160 work for me, depending on how close I am to the action. This one's at...

    Light Painting

Got some colored LED finger lights (a kid's toy) a while back and finally got around to checking them out. This shot is with five on one hand and moving my hand around during the 4 second exposure. D600, 24-70, ISO 100, f8. Shot in my studio, where my camera stuff shares space with my drums...

    Workshop photos

Had the opportunity to spend a day with noted Natural Geographic photographer, Sam Abel in a workshop on layering still lifes over landscapes. Here are a few of the keepers (mostly SOOC).

    Daffodil in droplets

Regular glass - from a picture frame that was laying around. Put the glass on two Nikon lens boxes, which raised it up about 12". Cleaned it and applied RainX prior to spraying on water. Left it alone for about 15 minutes for the water to bead up. I have a Manfrotto 190 tripod that has an...

    Daffodil in droplets

Here's something similar from a while back. I put a 4-pack of Crayolas under a glass, spritzed it with water and shot away. Upon review, I noticed the annoying flash reflection in the water beads. Oh well.....

First birds of the season - my ducks are back

Since we're officially into springtime, I keep my D7000 and 70-200 at the ready by the patio door in case anything photo-worthy happens in my back yard. Today, my duck couple returned to torment my terriers (and vice versa). Here's my first shots of the season of the mallard taking off from...
