We're expecting rioting and violence in St. Louis, so I bought this.

    Pets/"Petography" Thread!

Was ready to roll out to the rural areas yesterday with my 14-24 for some fall colors when my schedule got crazy. Had to settle for a few pics by the pool. Here's a shot (crop) of Skittles the mutt. Who says the 14-24 isn't a portrait lens?

    Panning shots...

You are headed in the right direction. Your composition is great, leaving room for the subject to move into. Your shutter speed might be a bit slow. My panning work is done at the track, where my subjects are moving faster than taxis or cyclists. I normally shoot at 1/125 +/-. Here's a shot...

    Strobes for Automotive Photography

I'd try to diffuse the flash with an umbrella and try multiple flashes, fired remotely (of course). Here's a shot I took last fall with one SB-800 shot through an umbrella, placed to the left of camera. Took this while I was waiting for my wife, who was going to be ready in "five minutes". It's...

Does/Has anyone use/d a Flash with Your Telephoto?

I used off camera flash for this shot, taken at dusk. Set up two SB-800s in the area I knew the hummingbird would frequent. The flash didn't seem to bother the little guy.

    Lunar Eclipse: October 8, 2014

Glenn: Sorry for a stupid question, but why shoot in DX mode? Btw, here's the moon prior to the eclipse, taken in the middle of the US. Heavy crop. Maybe should have shot in DX mode?

    6 stops or 10 stops?

I bought a Hoya (not real expensive) 9 stop ND a few years back and use it rarely. Here are two shots from 2012, one in bright sunlight (1 sec), the other in shade (13 sec). Both with D7000 and 17-55 2.8. If I used it more, I'd probably learn how to use it correctly.

The last of the Super Moons for this year

Cropped (a lot). Shot after the STL Cardinals victory over the LA Dodgers. Tried this shot with my D7000 and D600 to see which produced the better shot. The D600 won.

Images taken with your 70-200mm f2.8 / f4 zoom lenses

From a teen driving clinic this past weekend, called Street Survival School. After a day of instructing, we let the students take their parents our for a spin. Grabbed this shot to capture the rainbow at the figure 8 skid pad.

    Post your 'ALMOST' Photos..

Braking my rule of shoot wide and crop later. This is what happens...... Btw, the D600 is a beast at ISO6400.
