    Post your Birds in Flight

So this bird came in last night with our dogs (after a potty break) and decided to spend the night. We had a mini photo shoot this morning before he had to leave for work.

    Water Drops with D800

I tried water drops a few years ago. Rather than a dropper, I filled a ziplock baggie with water and punched a small hole in it to allow a constant drip into a black paint pan. That freed me up to focus on the shot. I used flashes and a macro lens as well as some colored backgrounds. I found...

    Black Rapid Yeti vs Double

I've never been a fan of camera straps, usually hand-holding my camera with strap detached or having it mounted on a tripod. On the rare occasion when I've lugged around 2 bodies, I've used my Tamrac straps. I have some events coming up where I need a better solution, like one of Black Rapid's...

Anyone in the US using Thumbtack?

I'm shoot mostly as a hobbyist and for my businesses and organizations, but I do take on an occasional paid gig. I now have bit more time on my hands to devote to pimping myself out. An associate mentioned a services hook-up site called Thumbtack, where you register as a service provider and...

    Need Wedding Reception Dance tips!

I don't do weddings, but I do shoot a lot of events. I've found that if you wander around the dance floor, you'll find interesting shots. If not, get people to have fun and then take their pic. Usually, the alcohol will do the job for you. For me, the challenge is the ever-changing light and...

    No Nikons at the Zoo

Just like a lot old timers still bang on Ludwigs (since 1965), I started my relationship with Nikon in 1977. Once you start getting good glass and accessories, it's tough to switch horses without a long-term compelling reason. I love shooting at the zoo but am usually there so early that I...

Nikon AF D 80-200 f2.8 thoughts from uses?

I had one for a few years that I picked up for a measly $400 (AF-D 2-ring) in excellent shape from a motivated seller. It was awesome on my D7000. Sold it for $650 when I had a chance to get a 70-200 VRII (also mint) for $1400. Great lens for the money. You'll love it.

    Pets/"Petography" Thread!

Weather's getting cold, so it's time to focus on indoor shots. Tried to get Ginger the mutt to pose instead of doing selfies. Sometimes I wish I had real studio lighting instead of SB-800s, so I could have modeling lighting for focus. Anyway, softbox to the left and umbrella on right against...

    What are my options?

I have the 14-24 2.8 and it's awesome. Super edge to edge sharpness. I don't use it as much as the 24-70, but when I do, I get very interesting results, especially if I shoot something up close and personal. Here's a landscape shot from last month's trout trip.
