    Pets/"Petography" Thread!

I have a dilemma. I am looking after someone's house and cat and the cat is a bit weird and very unfortunate when it comes to good looks. Apparently he is a bit ill and tends to puke all over the place although I have not found any proof of this. Prior to leaving on holiday the family asked me...

    Image numbering help

I have been looking for a thread that explains how to set the camera/memory card so that image numbers are consecutive and continue from last taken even when old ones have been deleted. Can anyone show me where this is or how it is done? D5100 is the camera in question.

As Shot, As Processed and How Could It Improve

Some subjects are just appealing. I saw this grubby pipe feeding into the river and immediately liked the dark ominous look of it which I tried to capture. There are so many versions you can do in PP and all are interesting (to me anyway) EXIF Single point, Shutter mode, 1/30, f/13, ISO 200, 85...

As Shot, As Processed and How Could It Improve

This shot is very disappointing. Because I liked what Iwas trying to do and I liked the colour contrasts. I was trying to get the red plant to the right to frame the side of the bridge but I wanted it to be in very sharp focus even if it meant the rest of the image was slightly blurred. Epic...

As Shot, As Processed and How Could It Improve

This second photo was taken because I saw a few potential challenges here. Firstly with the bright sun and deep shadows Secondly the confined space (I didn't like the orange fencing around the drum) EXIF Data: Aperture setting. ISO 100 f/6.3 1/2000 LS ADL Normal Purpose: To capture what ever...

As Shot, As Processed and How Could It Improve

Okay this is a series of photos I shot this afternoon (I will do one at a time) First off will be the exif data then the reason for the shot, what I was trying to do etc. Then I will post the original untouched off camera jpeg followed by my processing. Please be as critical as you want. The...

    Ups and Downs

Just spent an hour looking at images on this site and ended off by watching Pat's (RockyNH) slide show on his website. There are some really great photos all over this forum and I could probably spend 2 days or more just looking and dreaming! They really lift one's spirit to know that such...

    First outing with 18 - 105mm

I didn't know where else to post this as there is no "Weed" thread! I think there should be. Anyway here is my latest contribution to the weed family.

December 2013 Monthly Assignment: Holiday Theme

Entry #1. Couldn't resist taking this photo of a digger and driver in the street today - working in the spirit of Christmas. This is part of a nationwide installation of extra fast broadband.

    Photo Filing System

I can see how quickly photos can pile up and was wondering if anyone has a useful filing system/method they use so that photos can be located easily and quickly. I would think that over a time similar subjects in different lighting conditions/locations etc will be taken. How to distinguish and...

    First outing with 18 - 105mm

OK last two for now - even I am bored with me! Both weeds! And then this tenacious little fellow in the tarmac. Focus was out - me not the lens

    First outing with 18 - 105mm

Thanks Don. And Nick I think I will land up loving this lens. To me the detail in the centre of this weed is unreal

And just to show that we have bumble bees here!

    First outing with 18 - 105mm

Now this subject I struggled with - and it was stationery! I think all the reflections off the dark background and the overall feel that it could do with a good dusting contributed to the difficulty - it couldn't be my "new" lens and definitely not me! ;)

    First outing with 18 - 105mm

Whooo hooo ... my brand new second hand 18 - 105 arrived yesterday so I took it out for a spin this morning. I'm really pleased with it and even more pleased with myself as I learn to use it for what I believe it is designed to do. Anyway here is one of the shots I took and I don't know why...

    A Moment of Madness

It was indeed! How could I have even thought it was sane? Nikon AF-S VR 18- 105 f/3.5-5.6 DX, Nikon Af-S 35mm f/1.8G DX plus Nikon AF-S 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED-IF VR All in one hit! Crazy or what? Reminds me of the movie "Dances with Fools" However for those of you not already in...

    One of those days

I went out the other day with camera and tripod in hand for 4 hours - that's a lot for me. Destination Hamilton Gardens - which as you can see is a great photo opportunity location. It was a hot and very bright day and I had clearly left my photography eyes behind. I could not, for the...
