    New Olympus Pro 12-40 (24-80) 2.8

I've been looking at the new oly E-M10 body and think this would be the lens I'd get. None of the "kit" lenses are stellar and since this is small, it would be ideal. This video is pushing me in that direction, just waiting to see the pricing on the pro 2.8 40-150 (80-300 2.8). Check this out...

    Olympus 4/3rds or Nikon 1!

I've been pushing the J3 up to ISO 1600 to see if I could live with that on the V3, these two are at 1600 and are about 75% crops using the 30-110 @ 110 (about 80-300). The new 70-300 (810) is coming out soon and it would be excellent for birding if it produces.

    Olympus 4/3rds or Nikon 1!

First off, thank you to the Boss for allowing us a spot to discuss other brands! I've been enjoying the Nikon 1 system and am considering the V3, but the ISO issue is a huge drawback. I've been investigating the new Olympus E-M10 and it looks like a spectacular little camera. The drawback to...

    Rick's Nikon 1 J3 thread

Part 2- Getting dark here so I thought I'd push it to ISO 3200. Noise is rearing it's ugly head. LR did a pretty good job, but I wouldn't be able to use the images for anything serious. I guess 1600 is the usable upper limit. Annoying that there is no choice between 800 and 1600. I was however...

    Rick's Nikon 1 J3 thread

High ISO test. I've been experimenting a bit to see just how high I could go and maintain an acceptable IQ level. 800 is very usable as seen by the last bird shot. Below is a test at 1600, taking advantage of a gloomy overcast morning. The desk pencil holder volunteered to pose as a bird on my...

    Nikon 1 70-300 (810mm)

Anyone planning on getting this? I think it will be an awesome lens, can't wait to see some user shots/reviews.

Characteristics that make a great lens great...,

Over the years I've bought and sold too many lenses. Always in the quest for those must haves, be it IQ or functionality. Primes, of course, stand the test of time and deliver as expected most of the time (although Nikon has produced it's share of lemons). Zooms are a whole other story, some...

    Nikon VS Nikon

You can't beat the sensor in the Coolpix A for sure. I would only get the nikon 1 if you are ok with ISO of 400 or less. The only advantage of the Nikon 1 system to me is interchangeable lenses. The new 70-300 has a view of 810mm. Here is a shot from my J3 with the lowly 30-110 (297mm view) this...

    V2 focusing selections

I've been birding with the J3 and the selections are limited. I like using the 9 point spread on my D600 and was wondering what the choices are on the V2. This may help me decide on the V3 if they follow the V2 options. Thanks!

    New Nikon 1 Super Zoom

I think this will be one of the best Super-Zooms Nikon has ever made, if only they produced a body to match! The specs and build are pro and I think the price is reasonable for the quality. Remember on a Nikon 1 body this is the equivalent of a 189-810mm! Nikon 1 Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 VR...
