    How to de-haze or moisture?

RawTherapee has a de-haze tool. It will mostly crank up the contrast and black level. I don't touch it much. Maybe try stretching exposure in GIMP... I'm going to give it a try now.

Tutorial - How to post images inside your post

This thread is a bit obsolete today. The forum software was changed since the prior post in 2018. There is GIMP for Mac. Www.gimp.org

    AF area brackets

News to me. Mirrorless bodies do that, but I didn't know of any DSLR body that does.

    AF area brackets

I've never tried to turn that off on a DSLR. I wonder if it turns off if you activate the composition assist grid?

    AF area brackets

Not sure what you are asking here. Could it be Autofocus Point Illumination or Autofocus Point Display? On my D750 those are on the Setup Menu>Autofocus.

Making a custom photo calendar: who besides me does this?

Look into lulu.com. It's a print on demand self publishing service. 8.5x11 photo calendars can be done for yourself at cost, which is around $10-$11 each. You can also add a buck or 2 for your markup and point others who admire your work to buy there. ;)

    Nikon ES-2 slide/negative Digitizer

My way: RawTherapee, with my screenshot below. Notice on the right I am under the color adjustment tab and there is a film negative tool there. RawTherapee is free, download here.

    Aggravating thing just happened..

Slipperman, happy you extracted the cap! But I had no idea what tools you had at your disposal, so I went to the handyman's secret weapon. Clovis, the BF hammer is always an option. However it is always the last option. LOL

Yeah, I was about to edit the post for the Nikon exception to the rule.

    Aggravating thing just happened..

I think of the embarrassing things so you don't have to. Lefty-loosey, Righty-tighty? Opposite that for Nikon mounts. Also is it some weird aftermarket cap that might lock on and require pressing the lens release button? Beyond that, try making a large wadded ball out of duck tape, with sticky...

    Nikon Z 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 VR

If you are unhappy with the tripod mount, we have an aftermarket option now. Arca-Swiss mounting built-in, and it looks like some consideration for gripping in the hand. What I cannot say is how secure it mounts to the lens. Doesn't look too different from the Nikon original that way...

    Nikkor 17-35mm f/2.8 vs 18-35mm f3.5-4.5G

I never owned either lens. The 17-35mm has a very bad reputation on full-frame cameras as it has softness on the edges that is not so pronounced on a crop-sensor DX camera body. The 18-55 also suffers from this to a lesser degree. So it would help to know if you intend to put the lens on a...

    Hammer's 2024 Picture Picks

After ending 2023 on a high note, let's drop the expectations down a bit to begin 2024. Unable to get a view of eagles in the fog at a new spot. Tried a landscape shot instead.

    Fast Action Settings for D850

Hey, welcome aboard! No laughing, if you have settings that work well with your D3400, that should make a good starting point with the D850. But there will be some translation due to moving from the cropped sensor to the full-frame sensor. It would help to know which lenses you used with the...

    Should I need/get a Z TC1.4 for Z186?

I crop. I had a 1.4x Tamron long ago with my D80 but it gave error codes when I upgraded to a D7000. The higher resolution gave me room to crop so I have not really looked back. It stayed true for me after moving to full-frame bodies. Even higher resolution and less noise.

Connecting z lenses to z camera

    Z 24-70mm f/4 has about 0.5mm rotational movement Z MC 105mm f/2.8 has about 0.5mm rotational movement FTZ-II has about 0.5mm rotational movement on the Z-mount. 70-200mm f/2.8G VR also has a 0.5mm rotational movement on the F-mount D750 with 24-120mm f/4 has about 0.5mm rotational movement...

    Software Suggestions

I take the starving artist approach. I'm all about open-source and freeware. I import and organize images with Nikon NX-studio (Or whatever the current package is called). I shoot Raw+JPEG and do most of my image postprocessing with RawTherapee. It will edit jpeg and tiff files also. All...
