    Lisa’s Photos

Forgive me for uninvited criticism. In general, it is easier in post-production editing to make a dark photo lighter than it is to make a light photo darker. Once detail is lost in a light-colored area, it cannot be recovered. So aim for being a little dark if you are not afraid to correct it...

    Nikon lens interchangability

@Lisa Zee : I also have the Sigma 150-600mm C lens. I have used it on my Z5 with FTZ-II adapter, as well as my D750 and previously with a D7000 body. The lens is fully compatible with any auto mode the Z body has, no different to use than the F-mount D750 and D7000. I like to photograph birds...

    DX Lens on a Z Full-frame Body?

I have another option here. KEH has 3 of these (used) in stock right now just under $400. Z-mount, full frame 70-300mm by Tamron. https://www.cameralabs.com/tamron-70-300mm-f4-5-6-3-di-iii-review/

    NX Studio 2024

It's a fair question. You can choose ISO, shutter, or focal length. Not aperture. I have mostly stopped using NX Studio in favor of DigiKam. But that product does not even give as many sort options as NX Studio, and definitely not aperture. Who has a Facebook page for Nikon software development?

    DX Lens on a Z Full-frame Body?

I will add that speaking for myself, I think I would trade down to a Z50 before I would seriously consider using a DX lens regularly with the FF body. I actually had a similar crisis when I changed from a D7000 to a D750. Only I had FX telephoto lenses and DX lenses for wide to normal range. I...

    DX Lens on a Z Full-frame Body?

The Camera Company of Madison, WI is showing a Z24-200mm in the used listing for $560 (this is the new list that is updated on Tuesdays). And there is a used FTZ-II adapter for $180. And I will quote this one from the list... USED NIKON 70-300MM F4.5-6.3 AF-P ED VR (NIKON AFP) $159.99 I...

    Need Some Advice

Is there a lens incorporated in the MC adapter? A film on it maybe? An old clouded filter screwed on the lens? Fungus growing in lens? Best way to figure it out would be to get access to a Minolta SLR and mount your lens on it to look through the viewfinder. You are using LiveView. It is all...

D3300 - Possible to use two hot shoe accessories at the same time?

The GPS listing does not actually say it, but I think it is just a cold-shoe attachment. It uses a cable to connect to the USB connector of the camera which is how the data is transferred. So what you really would need is a way to attach it other than the hot-shoe. It could be a video cage with...

Thoughts on a cage for your Z

My understanding is somebody shooting video often has an external mic, some constant lights, external monitor, and possibly a video gimbal that all need an attachment point. The cage gives that and takes the load off of the body which may not be built for that. I adopted L-brackets after I...

Vote for Weekly Photo Challenge Feb 5th - Feb11th "Jewelry / Pets"

Thank-you everyone! Finally had a challenge where I could come up with an idea and do it. :)

Thoughts on a cage for your Z

I'm not sure of the benefit of a full cage in still photography over a L-bracket for Arca Swiss mounts. I thought the cages were more for video work. That said, the Z5 L-bracket I use (and it's the 2nd bracket I bought for it) matches the base contours and extends the height in a way the hand...

    CC appreciated :-)

What holds me back on analyzing the photos is there is no exif data other than "Z8". So I guess you are using a Z8 but I do not know the lens, the focal length, the basic settings. My first thought is are you using a tripod? Did you accidentally leave the Image Stabilization turned on while...

    Focus Shift Shooting With D850

For last week's challenge I also attempted to do a focus stack series on my Z5. I did get the photos, but then discovered that there is no focus stack plugin for GIMP. No wonder I never tried it before! I did have the good sense to also do a backup plan by focusing between my watch and class...

    SB-26 battery leak

Soft box on a normal flash will be the most versatile option. There are LED ring lights also that illuminate constantly. They are a bit easier to use for macro, no sync cord needed. No guessing power levels either.

    Sb200/300/400/500???

I can tell you about the SB-400. There is no display or controls on it. Just an on/off switch and the strobe rotates up in 1 axis only for bouncing off the ceiling. It does not work in the Nikon CLS as either commander or remote devices. It is a flash for around a home to be used in iTTL mode. A...

Need to know what replacement parts required

The circuit board of the hotshoe is broken and the ribbon cable looks ripped in camera body. Assuming you just glue the broken plastic together you would be replacing those. You can buy an entire D5100 possibly for less $$$. Consider this camera as a parts donor. Edit: now that I can see the...

    Lighting advice

Low-key at it's most basic is an under-exposed image. So auto exposure modes should be off. That includes auto-ISO. I would begin with a fixed ISO and aperture you want for control of depth of field. Then dial in your exposure with shutter speed. If using strobes, then shutter is also going to...

Solved: D810 Tethered Shooting and Dell PC problem

My PC a year or more ago stopped finding my SD card readers. I have 3 different readers and they stopped working 1 at a time over a few weeks. I wish I wrote down what I did to fix, but it was in the Windows 11 settings somewhere. Has not been a thing since. It took me several days to find the...

    SB-26 battery leak

Try cleaning with Q-tips soaked in white vinegar. It's a mild acid that will react with the residue. Water soaked Q-tips after to help neutralize the chemicals. That flash will only be useful in manual power settings. Your D7000 is iTTL which means SB-28 or newer. Film TTL on the SB-26 will...
