At what focal length/angle does a wide angle really start to show the perspective distortion? I want to get a wide angle but I want to keep it not so extreme. In a DX lens I am thinking around 18-35mm in a tele zoom or a 17-55mm tele zoom.

I was reading something tonight on portrait lenses (after the flurry of portrait lens posts lately) and I saw a brief mention of choosing a portrait lens according to the characteristics of your subject, i.e., age, physical size, other features etc. Why would this matter?

Here is one more attempt to make this shot "acceptable" to sell or print. I got rid of some of the shadow under the hat brim. Used some Gaussian blur and a touch of a vignette. Is it too much use of blur?
