The Slopes of Mount Lozère (2016) Some time ago, I showed that deserted area of central France under threatening skies, but it can also be a very pleasant region with clear mountain streams of very pure drinking water... Nikon D810, Nikkor 35mm, ƒ/1.4 G lens, handheld.

Update: Kevin, the technician from Strobepro in Canada, saved the day. He told me the SB-900 should in fact be set to TTL, with any and all Nikon-only options turned off. So, I did as he said, and bingo! Not only the SB-900 fires, but I can very well set and adjust its output directly from the...

The Most Amazing Columns (2023) Three photos today, as they belong together. The Saint-Restitut church already pictured above features sculpture of an extremely high level of technical mastery and creative artistry... ... but the most amazing feature is the columns that have been shaped in...

Very nice set! I would have just corrected the converging verticals on the façade shot. I know that church quite well. With that of the Invalides (where one would marry the general’s daughter  ), it is the poshest parish in all of Paris. Old money.

Old Money (2019) The old 10-franc “Voltaire” note was in circulation in France between the beginning of 1964 and the end of 1973. It is the note I’ve always liked best, æsthetically. Together with some solid silver 10-franc and 50-franc coins from the 1960s and 70s. Nikon Z7, Voigtländer...

L’Herm Castle (2017) The L’Herm Castle in the Périgord region of France (that’s to the SW of the country, within the greater region of Aquitaine) was built during the 16th century, it is therefore not Mediæval. However, and in spite of some elements and decorations in the Renaissance style, it...

About to collapse (2015) The city of Matera in Basilicata may have rehabilitated its sassi, however there are some other buildings in town that require urgent care, such as this church (I’d say from the late 16th century) that looked (in 2015) like it was about to collapse... What has happened...

The Secrets of Venice (2009) Since its early beginnings on the island of Torcello during the so–called “Dark Ages”, or early Middle Ages (the 500s in the case of Venice), the village, then the town, and finally the city, depended exclusively on rain for its supply of fresh water. Thus, over the...

Brienza, Basilicata, southern Italy (2015) The village of Brienza is located in a particularly mountainous part of Basilicata. Overlooked by its Mediæval castle, it is an interesting place to visit. Approaching it from the South allows gorgeous viewpoints on the old sheet wall that went around...

If, by “the one I linked earlier”, you mean this one: ... then that one is the X1R – N, and that’s the exact same one I bought. It has the problems I describe above: can fire the Nikon flash but only “locally”, by pressing the TEST button on the X1R – N itself; canNOT fire the Nikon flash...

The Romanesque church and its keep (2023) The Saint-Restitut parish church in the eponymous village (southeastern France) is unique for a Romanesque church, as its nave is attached at its western end to a square, tall and massive Mediæval defense tower... but let’s begin with the dedication and...

Do you live in a cave? (2015) The city of Matera in Basilicata (southern Italy) includes a network of centuries-old troglodyte dwellings called the sassi. In the 1950s, they were an object of shame for Italy and had to be evacuated as a result of unhealthy living conditions. Since then, they...

    CC appreciated :-)

That’s the thing with EXIF, you don’t have to fill in the fields or “leave them blank”: the camera fills them all by itself. Then, during the post-processing, the software may be configured by the user or by default to strip them off at some point. This is probably what happened there. P.S...

D3300 - Possible to use two hot shoe accessories at the same time?

In case you need to turn your single hot shoe into two, there are little gizmos that do it and that you can buy for little money. This is one I found on Amazon.fr, but it will of course be available elsewhere...
