A Trip in Italy (2021) In September and October 2021, we spent three weeks touring the Italian regions of Abruzzo, Umbria, Marches and Emilia-Romagna, which we hadn’t visited yet. Personally, I had my sights firmly set on a series of early Romanesque churches of high architectural and artistic...

Warm Colors (2019) Shot for a Flickr theme-based group. Lighting was not done as I usually do with strobes, but with small continuous LED lights (Lumecubes), hence the long exposure (5 seconds). Gobos were used. Nikon Z7, Nikkor Z “Nifty Fifty” 50mm, ƒ/1.8 S lens. Gitzo tripod, Arca-Swiss Cube...

    Nikkor Z14-24mm f/2.8 size comparison

It certainly is more compact that the F-mount predecessor. Next to the 105 macro, it doesn’t look that large, but then next to the Distagon (which I used to have), which is a beast, it still seems quite large... I guess if you need the extra stop v. the 14-30/4, then you’re willing to pay the...

Fury Inlet, southern Italy (2015) Cala Furore, or “Fury Inlet”, so named because when the wind is strong, it rages noisily through this narrow slit between rock walls. As I said before, while on vacation, Italians like to be piled up onto one another... ;o) Nikon D810, Carl Zeiss Distagon T*...

The protective cap arrived today, it is light but solid metal, feels like magnesium, slots right in and twists to locked position perfectly on the AD200 Pro II barebulb head. I'm so happy I ordered a second one as a spare (at about 3 euros per unit, I'm not about to break the bank). Thanks again...

The Saint-Hilaire church in Semur-en-Brionnais (2023) The Brionnais is a small barony at the southernmost tip of the large duchy of Burgundy. It was the fief of the Semur family, whose castle stood in the eponymous village. That family of local barons would have gone basically unnoticed through...

The Monk on the Fire Ladder (1960s and 2021) My mentor in the field of church photography was a French Benedictine monk, Dom Angelico Surchamp, the publisher of all the Zodiaque books. He was an amazing, unique person. From him I learned a little bit about photography, and tons about life in...

I have a sharp 45mm... should I get a wide angle (24mm) or improve my portraiture with a sharper 85?

It always puzzles me when someone asks such a wide-ranging question as “Should I buy a wide-angle or a telephoto?” I feel like answering, “Don’t you know better than us what you’re missing the most in your practice of photography?” In this case, as you already seem to have several longer...

The Castle of Peyrelade, or How to Make the Most of Your Surroundings (2015) Peyrelade in southern France was a small fortress built between the 11th and the 14th centuries. It made the best possible use of the terrain, especially for the keep, as you can see here. Obviously, space is a a...

Saint Andrew in Greensted-juxta-Ongar (2023) This Anglo-Saxon (read: pre-Romanesque; in this case, more specifically Carolingian) church claims to be the oldest wooden church in the world. Dendrochronology dating on the timbers brought back results ranging from 845 to 1055 (the latter with a...

Interesting, thank you very much! I have found the AD-S15 in Europe where it is not indicated for the Pro II version of the AD200, however one customer gives a feedback from this month in which they say that it fits perfectly, so I will most definitely get one! :)

Romanesque England: Saint Lawrence in Castle Rising (2023) Built during the mid–1100s by Norman lord William of Albini II, the church of Saint Lawrence in the village of Castle Rising is hailed in the UK as a grandiose gesture and a prowess of overflowing decorative Romanesque architecture. One thing leads to another, you know how it is... Having received the AD200 Pro II flash, I was thinking about something a little bit stronger than the Manfrotto Nanos (which are fine for the smaller AD100) in terms of light stand, yet still very portable... I have Century C-stands that are...

He looks distinctly distrustful 🧐 The blueish/greenish cast on the white hair is too bad, you would have needed a burst of flash to get the true colors.
